Forums - Gaming Discussion - Any thoughts on the net code and dedicated servers for Titanfall

I can say that my ping is about 50 and that seems quite common with people I'm playing with

From what I've seen, everything runs well and there aren't major lag issues with hit detection and stuff. Getting into a game is fine

But I'm paying on PC, so given that the servers are what the Xbox Live money is paying for, I don't know if I get dedicated servers and the power of the cloud!

Respawn stated that the X1 and PC get the dedicated servers.  The 360 version is a totally different story.

Ive still had games with players lagging, there is no magic fix to see here, people with bad connections will still have bad lag.

They also want to stop shouting about how all the AI is done server side, cos they AI is moronic.

But the game is still really fun!

Yeah, but as long as players lagging MORE have a disadvantage, all is well. There should be ZERO reward for connection issues, otherwise you get things like lag switches, etc.  I'm looking at you COD.

I remember the good ole days where we used to call people with good internet connections LPBs.  They had at best an advantage, at worst on par.

I expect some lag because of the internet but what I am asking is how solid is the net code.  How long does it take to get into a game.  Someone mentioned hit detection which is another advantage of dedicated server.  No host advantage.  What is your ping to the server.  Since MS can spin up a server closer to your location, your ping should always be low and you should be matched with people who also have low ping for a better experience.

my pings been low in the 60-80 range.

You still see on kill cams your character shooting in a differnt direction to where you thought you did just like in COD, with dedicated servers yeah theres no host advantage, so it just feels like your playing COD not as the HOST.

Getting into games has never failed for me, so no issues there.

I have never been disconnected and the game has never crashed.

So nothing to complain about at all. But it doesnt feel any differnt to any other multiplayer game thats working as it should.

Your ping is NOT that good at all.  Mine is consistently below 30 at that isn't even the best.  Sub 20 is even better and I've seen it.

Consistency is what you are looking for.  You should always have low pings and great connection to the host compared to player hosted where it can vary all over the place even while playing.

I have a ping of 11 (US EST) and while some players are lagging, at least the connection to the server is always good. I actually really like this and see a difference between Titanfall and COD.

AI being done on the server side saves up CPU and require less bandwith, so it is still good :) (even if they are really dumb, but this has nothing to do with dedicated servers or even the bandwith)

But its dedicated servers so AI was always going to be done on the server, this is no differnt to how any games in the past work, the HOST always does the AI and if that host is a dedicated server then its a server. Its nothing new or special and should not be shouted about especially when its so dumb.

The AI is dumb for a totally different reason.  Its dumb because they are easy kills for pilots and help to trim the time to get your Titan.  The game is about pilots fighting pilots not having uber bots running around killing everybody,

I agree there not suppose to be challenging, there just there to be fodder so everyone can get a kill and it makes the battles feel more epic.

But even so there still too stupid, i often see them running into walls, or on hardpoint mode protecting the objectives by looking at it rather than with the back to it so they can see enemies coming.

None of which really effects the fun of the game in anyway. Im just saying AI on multiplayer games is a HOST thing, this is nothing unique to Titanfall. It would never of even been a consideration to let one of the clients do the AI processing.

Well, it is a beta so I would not expect things to be perfect.  Also, the build I believe is more about stable net code then bot AI.  Things could change on release so it should be interesting how much Respawn put into the AI code.  Probably would be good if they had a slider so people can customize the game and AI to the level they want.

Im just telling you what i get, i know others will get better but its still a good ping. I normally finished 1st or second on the team so its not an issue.

You must be very close to the server to get such a low ping, i guess im not so close.

I dont think you get it.  COD is PEER hosted.  Makes everything wonky, and introduces a struggle to compensate everyone fairly across the board, including the host.  I remember in MW2 i would DOMINATE as host.  No so much anymore, its a crap shoot.

Dedicated servers are LONG overdue from the stingy bastards at Activision.  I don't really blame them though, people are sometimes oblivious to getting rubber banded, instakilled, toe sprayed, etc.  It's maddening to me, and it sounds as if Titanfall has resolved some of that for low ping players.

This IS A BIG DEAL, because hopefully other companies, expecially ones raking in the cash from their franchises, follow suit.

---EDIT---

Also, if it were up to me, they would allow players to create their own dedicated serviers using their Xbox Ones (when away) or even their PCs (running Windows or Linux SW).  I used to do this with counterstrike to assist the community.  There are a lot of players out there (some in college) sitting on some rediculous connections.

There should also be a checkbox to filter out civilian dedicated servers for those who only want to play on MS dedicateds.  This shit was done back in counterstrike days 10 years ago (granted traffic was a lot lower too) but these companies are too obsessed with maintaining full control over everything to ever allow user dedicateds, especialy on PC.

The Front end is Origin but the backend is Azure.  Its no different then how EA servers work with XBL for the 360 games, just vice versa.
Edit:  Not sure why the 360 is not getting the service but then again its just could be that XBL on the 360 is not compatible.  Different Network, or MS just want to give the incentive to go X1 over the 360, who really knows.
