Nope.
I have over 10 family members who bought a Wii to play Wii sports. The majority did not buy any games just played Wii sports on weekends and gatherings.
They hit the jackpot with the casual market.
None have bought a Wii U or even care for it. Once People got over the motion control fever, Wii sales nose dived.
Nope, wich means they might aswell rrlease their other franchises on other consoles until they have a new killer app. If other games like Mario Kart and Mario Galaxy would have released on PS3 and X360 the Wii would still have sold atleast 80m.
Doubtful, Wii Fit played a major part (more so than Wii Sports Resort) but Wii Sports provided the starting boost which Fit probably wouldn't have been able to capitalise on.
It's still a brilliant game (though I play more WSR now... WS is generally only brought out for 3+ player tennis)
No damn way. Wii Sports showcased what the Wii could do in terms of motion controls ( even if nowadays the technology is pretty gimmicky) and it was a game so simple everyone was able to pick it up and play. It was also a good game to play with your friends so it quickly became popular thanks to the positive word of mouth. Great advertising from Nintendo's part helped a lot as well.

1 game is 1 game. It really takes a software library to move hardware. Wii Sports is possibly the best start any console has ever had especially to be right there at launch. To pretend Wii Fit, Wii Play, Just Dance etc didn't help would be foolish though.
No. That said, WiiSport showcased the use of motion control, without it WiiSPortResort and Just Dance probably wouldn't have happened. If we assume these games would have come the Wii would have been successful, but probably wouldn't have won the game. Because the showcase game would've been missing on launch.

They hoped Nintendoland would have similar effects.
The problem is the gamepad gimmick just isn't as good as the motion control gimmick.
