Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What if Nintendo acquires a lot of dev teams.?

Imagine if at some point of this year Nintendo out of nowhere decided to acquire enough developer teams as to pump games to Wii U on an almost monthly basis. Not this year, but mid-2015 and onwards there's no more game droughts. They don't just milk Mario and Zelda, they put actual quality and unique games on almost all genres, maybe even reviving old franchises or giving them new twists (Starfox third-person shooter adventure, maybe? I don't know, user your imagination!)

Not saying this is possible or that it will happen at all. Just a "what if" scenario that I'd like people to discuss. Obviously, you have to completely ignore the reasons of why this is impossible (Dev teams too expensive or stuff like that).

IMO by doing this Nintendo would clear Wii U's name and would never require the other console's third-party support at all*. First and maybe second year have been tough for Wii U, but third year onwards it gets very hyped: Even if Wii U doesn't end up being very profitable (If at all), it will stablish a good reputation for Nintendo and their next home console will be very hyped given the fact that it will be a known fact that there won't be big game droughts. If Wii U sales increase considerably it will get the third-party support back.  Nintendo might (But only MIGHT) procceed to create a stronger online infrastructure and maybe incorporate some form of achievement system (Let's face it, Gamerscore surely is a decisive factor for some people).

My explanation almost seems to imply that these resources would only be applied on Wii U, but 3DS and their next portable console obviously will also benefit this increase of first-party support and Nintendo will prioritize games equally on both consoles.

Ideal situation (Yet extremely unlikely, almost impossible, even in this imaginary scenario): After all I said happened, their next-gen home console and handheld are also the most powerful in the market, even more so than PS5/next Xbox and next PS handheld, but at the same time they make sure the internal structure of their next-gen systems are incredibly easy to develop for (A lot of first party devs + Easy development = WIN!). The concept of these new devices are somewhat similar to the rumored "Fusion" console, making them very complementary to each other and allowing their value to highly increase when you buy them both.

Then the internet would explode.

Your turn.

* They obviously would benefit them, but they won't die if they don't have it.

issue is they would be taking all the risk and all the funding would be on them.

at the end of the day ms or sony dont rly care if some ea game flops or any others game.

If that happened, no one would ever dare say "Wii U got no games."

i think nintendo already wanted to buy studios, but the studios didnt want to join nintendo because they would lose the liberty to produce to other platforms.
the maximum they can do is to pay for a game or its exclusivity, like sonics, bayonetta, w101, hyrule warriors.

You do realize that money is the number one motivating factor in this industry, right. No one cares about "producing for other platforms" if they aren't getting payed. Nintendo buying them guarantees pay and work.

I think It is a double-edged sword. Sure, wii u will have a larger library of games. The problem is that most people (and even Nintendo fans) don't buy 1 game per month, so some games wouldn't sell enough to justify buying more dev teams.

This is not part of Nintendo's business strategy. Contrary to what people think Nintendo likes being a small (manpower/size) company, if they got too big I don't think they'd be able to manage the company the way they want.

Actually I meant that they would have the power to do so if they desired to. How they use it it's a different matter. I read it again and I see I expressed myself wrongly, though.

I predict a lot of Sony/MS fans coming in here and derailing the thread with massive flaming and trolling...

OT: for that scenario to work, Nintendo would indeed have to greatly diversify its output of games. More genres and more different franchises. Not just 2D Mario/3D Mario/Mario Kart/smash Bros./Zelda/Donkey Kong/Kirby.

A third-person shooter Kid Icarus would be neat, as would a new 1st person Metroid adventure.
Waverace, Excite Bike/Truck and 1080 Snowboarding could be brought back from the dead, perhaps combined into a racing game compilation. Starfox is due a new outing, but it would need to remain a vehicle-based shooter.

Endless Ocean 3. It just makes too much sense.

Advance Wars & Fire Emblem would both work perfectly with the GamePad's touchscreen. Pokemon Snap would be awesome with the GamePad, too. It's practically made for this; just look at those 360 degree videos on the e-Shop and Google Streetview on Wii U.

Looking at the tons and tons of fantastic art on Miiverse, Nintendo ought to really push that creative drawing aspect of the GamePad, it already works very well with Art Academy - make that into something greatly full-fledged.

Make the big 3D Mario adventure the fans want.

Besides all that, get some teams dedicated to continually port retro games (mostly GameCube and Wii ones, but N64 games could work too) to Wii U. Full 1080p HD, save states, new Wiimote and GamePad-enhanced controls, online functionality where it makes sense... the works.

As a bonus, finally, Tingle RPG 3 on Wii U.

At least the thread would remain on Forum Hot Topics and more people would discuss this...
