Forums - Sony Discussion - Seriously, PS4 sold out again! Why is the hype so crazy??

Because of what sony did with the ps3.. They deserve trust and sales.. To go from barely having better first party than microsoft , to surpassing Nintendo.. With innovative IP after IP.. They proved themselves last gen

They also proved once again then they support their console till the end, wich is valuable for a customer (You don't buy a console that won't have new exculsives after 3 years)

They even tried (and kinda succeed) in improving on anything the competition did and they didn't (psmove, psplus).

The PS4 isn't a huge like innovation like the Wii or Playstation, but it was the only console this gen that didn't completely screw up. The WIiU has next to no 3rd party support, and the XBO is more expensive with weaker specs. It also doesn't feel the need to force useless gimmicks on you like the gamepad or Kinect. Sure there's a touchpad added but it's unobtrusive.

Sony basically won this gen by not being completely retarded.

Innovation tends to be placed at a Higher Echelon than quality because of the success of the Wii

If anything, the Wii's success is because it caught onto the motion gaming fad at a time when everyone else, including smartphones and PC were just trying to get it right.

The Wii U is jumping on to the touch bandwagon late to the party, Smartphones and Tablets gaming are built on the premise of touch controls, Windows 8 and touch monitors have made it more or less mainstream. Innovation will no longer work here.

Its even worse with the Kinect which is still motion gaming, and its making the Xbox more expensive, which it cannot do without the brand appeal and Sony level first parties, (not even talking about Nintendo level 1st parties).

Essentially, Wii U's lost most of its Wii Base (not Nintendo Base), Xbox is straddeling casual and hardcore, and PS4 is gunning for the gaming market. The best part about Sony's strategy is that it can possibly attract more casuals than the Xb1 or Wii U through word of mouth,e.g people will ask gamers what they should get to game and since ps4 has larger marketshare it will tend to swing people more to ps4.

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

Having a console that's cheaper than the competition and good word of mouth goes a long way. And let's not forget that just this past spring/summer that Microsoft had the absolute worst press (deservedly) of any video game company in recent memory. That also goes a long way -- in the other direction. February is the launch of the PS4 in Japan; I take them being "sold-out" with a grain of salt considering that they're probably gearing up for the launch over there.

Ok I just wanted to check the availability of the PS4 just to found out it sold out again.

I honestly believe we have seen the last of this situation about 3 weeks ago.

Ok I am one of those guys that got taken by the hype. The only other console I bought during launch was the N64. I am still busy playing all those Free PS+ games on both PS3 and Vita (purchased one right after buying my PS4 and found out Gravity Rush and Uncharted being free) to even have decent time to play the PS4. I haven't got a chance to play outlast and just starve yet. Now I am playing a lot of JRPG, bought Ys Celceta of Memories.

Now even if my PS4 is not being played at the moment. I am  not one second dissastified by my purchase one bit. I just know the games are coming. Getting ready for Infamous and the new video of The Order.

It looks like somehow Sony manage to get people to trust the PS4. That would explains those crazy sales number and the almost quick sell out everytime it becomes available.

Edit: Not even available for Pre-order... smh

They are still getting sold out even while Retailers are abusing the demand with crazy non desired bundles (Gamestop). The hype for this system is crazy.

I agree, they must have just gotten their marketing spot on.  With scarcely a decent game out for the system to still be selling out is insane.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

They are becoming more available now and the hype is dying down. Perhaps Infamous can bring back a similar amount of hype again.

Because Sony caters to hardcore gamers and those happen to be the early adopters.

What's funny is, prelaunch we had lots of reports of failing consoles with less than 50k in peoples hands, certain people jumped on it as the new rrod, here we are 5 million plus sold, where's the proportional failure rate to that initial 50k? Surely we should be flooded with angry customers by now...

It's the best system out by far. Pretty much the same as Xbox but cheaper. The wii u is a joke. The wii fad has passed. Nothing is going to stop sony. Especially once the big hitters get here soon. Best selling console and not even out in japan yet. Sony planned and executed this perfectly

I also bought the PS4 despite knowing there weren't very many games for it at launch. I just trust Sony after seeing their unending support for the PS3 despite its bad performance at the beginning. So I believe they'll also support the PS4, and 3rd parties will also be there.

I don't consider myself a hardcore gamer. And the only console I bought at launch was the N64. Yet I still bought a PS4. I doubt it's really just hardcore gamers bying the system.

Are you saying the Xbox One is not made for hardcore gamers?
