Forums - Music Discussion - %99 of music is crap today.

You are right. All of this pop stars are for one season. And they will do everything for being popular . Sex, drugs and alcohol are normal for them. They are popular not for their music but only by scandals. It's sucks. But when we have someone really interesting (M. Jackson A. Winehouse, etc.) we loose them ...

lol no. Theres terrible artist in every era of music.

Their are still some quality bands out today, but I agree alot of music sucks. Unfortunately most of the crappy music is all mainstream with subliminal messages that if you play the song backwards you can hear some crazy Illuminati crap.

These claims are usually made by people who don't like music as much as they think.

Some examples of - imo of course - great music released in 2013:

Agnes Obel - Fuel to Fire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Snvu7bAMXLg
Ryan Davis - Gyration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUlvWpTvKO4
Pearl Jam - Lightning Bolt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0lXz5jmWdc
Goldfrapp - Laurel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOFMo8o2K5Q
Bonobo -First Fires http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5w_HOmKGG8
Bill Callahan - The Sing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96xpXS3hbec
Disclosure - Confess To Me - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MfLZM7kvy0
Moderat - Bad Kingdom http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NPxqXMZq7o
Arcade Fire - Afterlife http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcKinnMXuKg
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Mermaids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDFyd_no17o
The Notwist - Kong (released in 2014) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpOYkK3o0jY

OP, I agree with what you. I mean, look how songs try to make words rhyme, some songs shorten a word in order to rhyme  with another word, others just use some random word that doesn't even rhyme, and there are others that use the SAME WORD that was already used in a previous line so that, well, rhyme.

There's stilll great stuff today, but the mainstream is much worse than decades ago.

Main stream music has sucked since the 80's, and that's ignorring the entire genre of disco from the 70's.  We've had Back Street Boys & a dozen different variations, we've had the Spice Girls & a dozen different variations, we've had Billy Ray Cyrus & a wave of "New Country" fecal matter.  Aron Carter, Brittany Spears, MC Hammer, Milli Vanilli & a bunch of cookie cutter crap just like it all the way up to American Idol.

I've done a bad job but I'm trying to illustrate how the mainstream music "industry" has been crap for 30 or 40 years.

Ok, I'm not thingking about Aaron Carter or the Spice Girls...

You can always find negative examples, but where are the positive examples of great mainstream artists today?

I think that some of the most successful artists of earlier decades are among the best artists of that time. That isn't the case anymore.

Not sure if those are the best examples, but I'm thinking about The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elvis, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Queen, Van Halen, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Run-D.M.C. or even Michael Jackson until 'Bad'. These were all mainstream successes.

Some of those band still release new albums, but they're mostly crap.

Main stream is trash that gets forced down your throat, the amount of times I have to listen to shit I wish I never had to hear once in my life is mind boggling.

Korn and Linkin Park always were pop-acts... if you like Rock, and to everyone that likes it, here's an infusion of some actual decent rock music...

That doesn't make your point any less true, however. Some of trash shat out into soundwaves these days is just astonishing.

True dat, I usually listen to a lot of stuff that my parents used to listen too. I respect the artists today, I'm not up there doing what they are doing, but I don't like their music.

Almost all of music sucks today. it's all auto-tune this,auto-tune that. Then you have your miley cyrus and justin bieber's of the world. Everyone always talks about what there doing, instead of there actual dam music!!!!  I personally like rock and somewhat heavy rock music, but not screaming heavy metal, but most of that is crap these days. Most rock, tends to be watered down these days,to appeal to the teenie-boppers. I used to like Korn and linkin park back in the day,now there just nothing but crap pop acts in my opinion. Shinedown did the same thing. bruno mars is good, but he just rips of music from the 60's and 70's. If a female sucks talent wise, they just sex up there music videos,to distract people from how terrible they are. Am,I the only one that hates the music of today.

99% of music in any given decade has sucked. Nothing has changed.
