Forums - Gaming Discussion - "Sony Trying Hard To Get Titanfall on PS4/PS3, Microsoft Going For Deal Similar To CoD Series"

lol.. Goodluck outbidding MS sony. . not going to happen if Ms willing to drop tons of cash for future exclusivity,

It's actually much easier to get a game to not be an exclusive than it is to try and keep it one. I'd say just because Microsoft has a lot of cash doesn't mean they are willing to spend an huge sum of money to keep it exclusive. At a certain point the amount of money they'd have to spend to keep it exclusive starts to outweight the total value of it being an exclusive for Microsoft platforms. Either way, opportunity cost is going to be a very big factor for all three of these companies and their decisions regarding Titanfall.

I do expect Titanfall (or the next Titanfall) to be on Playstation within a year or two. I'd be honestly pretty surprised if it wasn't.

Well, while the statement is true in the long run, it lacks detail, is basically the point.  The 1.1B loss is forecasted over the next year, not a single day.

Errr... nope.

It is forecast by March 2014 (a few weeks from now) for the year to March 31st 2014.  This isnt for the next year, its for the current fiscal year.

Ok, point still stands though, it's the losses accrued over a years time, not just for March 31st 2014.  I simply had the timeframe mixed up.

This is where I see so much misunderstanding on financials.

The ONLY numbers that matter for financial results are the year end results.   Quasrtelty financial statements are just that... they mean nothing unless they acumulate into a full year loss or gain.  Sony will record a loss for the year.  What he said was 100% accurate, what you are saying is pointless.

Uh, no, not really.  What I said was factually correct, other than the timeframe.  His statement made it sound like Sony's losing 1.1b in a day.  That's equally if not more inaccurate than my previous statement of 'Over the next year'.  Additionally, Sony's games division is losing nothing right now (unlike Microsofts), which would give them more leeway with shareholders to throw money at things.  Whether they do or not is up to Sony and their shareholders.

Microsoft on the other hand IS losing money in their games division, AND they have major stockholders breathing down their necks.  Equally important to the topic at hand.  So, their purse strings aren't exactly as limitless as some people point out.

But hey, if it makes you feel better by all means, continue to discount reality, and marginalize the fine print.

deary me...

are you actually attempting to paint MS in a worse financial light than Sony?  really?

He didn't make it sound like a day, he said they recently announced a 1.1bn loss.... that is factually correct.

You are tap dancing because you realised your error and now you are deflecting.

1. MS doesn't have a gaming division

2. MS is fucking loaded.

Deary you, no.  Did I say that?  Anywhere?  Again, reading comprehension, it's a great tool to have.

He also jumped the gun, they projected a 1.1b loss for March 31st 2014, it's currently February.

You are tap dancing around the fact that I said initially that HE WAS CORRECT, but that his statement lacked detail, which was why he was being questioned.  If you're not willing to follow the converation, why even bother responding?

1. Now who's tap dancing?  The Xbox Division (That better?), is currently losing money.

2. Yes, MS is fucking loaded, but at the mercy of their stockholders, as is any major corporation.  And unlike Japan, America has no real qualms about shedding dead weight, to please their shareholders, and increase their YoY gains.  So, if the Xbox division continues to lose money, yes that could very well tie Microsoft's hands with regards to just throwing massive wads of cash at things, like they did last gen.

Nobody wants to know why it's better for the industry ? :(

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

That's cool but most PlayStation gamers don't care about it.

Speak for yourself. I would look up COD sales. The only console gamers who wouldn't care about such a thing are Nintendo gamers.

COD sales are overtracked by 97%. PS gamers don't like games with 6 vs 6 matches.

sony doesn't have to outbid MS with cash.   not putting titanfall on ps4 will cost EA at least 50M dollars, 1M copies sold on ps4 would be an easy accomplishment and that's money EA loses.   so if Sony puts up 10M dollars then MS needs to spend at least 60M to retain exclusivity.  Sony could also sweetin the deal without spending a single cent by reducing the royalty rate.   Drop $1 off of royalty is worth 1M to EA for every 1M sold on ps4.   With ps4 killing xbone at market  EA is set to loose massive amounts of money staying exclusive to MS.

...basically sony could make is really, really, REAALLY expensive for MS to maintain exclusivity with very little effort on their end.

Fans complaining to EA won't make a difference. There has to be some sort of contract keeping it exclusive to Xbox. EA can't just break a contract because fans want it. Unless they're talking about Titanfall 2 in which case I don't see that also being exclusive.

most contracts have an exit clause.  if X, Y, and Z conditions are/aren't met the deal is nullified.   EA would be quite foolish not to have any exit clauses and ps4 sales killing xbox sales is very likely to be one of those clauses.

..obviously we don't know the finer details of the contract but everything is negotiable when enough money is on the table.

Why? :P

After yesterday's NPD I'm not really worried about this anymore, in terms of pushing Xbox hardware. It'll still be a bummer for the PS fans without a PC that want to try the game though, so hopefully it isn't snatched up.

Did you read the recent sony news? lol

You said it was for the coming yera.  he was more accurate than you.  He was a few weeks off, you were more than a year off.

and no.... there isn't an xbox division either.

I suggest you leave this.

Yeah, I read the recent news.  Have you read the news for the past 10 years?  It's not like Sony's PC and TV divisions haven't been losing money for quite some time now.  And that they've tried everything they could to absorb/right the losses without killing jobs.  Something America companies have zero qualms over.

Yep, I said it was for the coming year, I also corrected myself a post later when he corrected me.  So, what exactly are you arguing that I haven't already said?  Nothing, you're just trying to sound clever.

Your suggestions are irrelevant unless you own this site.  I said he was correct initially, tap dance around that all you like, but facts are facts.  And yes, the Xbox Division exists, it's simply a sub-division of Microsoft Devices and Studios Group.  More hair splitting, but whatever, I can continue adding finer detail to this all you like.
