I finally decided to leave Nokia for a change and try me some Android (never used it). Still not sure if it'll become Samsung or Sony though.

I always, especially when Nokia was the biggest deal around, enjoyed my Nokia's. Gonna see what all the fuzz about Android is about though.

You should've done that a long time ago, but late is better than never :D

Which phone are you getting by the way?

I'm a pretty late adopter of the so-called smart-phone. Since Nokia was entering the market with the Lumia I decided to stick with them and become an early adopter of the WP.

So that's where my 'dissapointment' comes from, the early bird misses out on the later worms or something. Not many apps at the time and now I am curious about Android.

I am considering the s4 mini or the Xperia Compact. It's all about size.

Well yah that's good move if it happens (rumors for now). I mean they would use Android for cheap/low budget phones and keep the high end with Windows Phone. Makes a lot of sense...

This is a rumour... but it could be a smart move if they play it right. Slightly fanyboy article that...

Obviously pitched at the arse end of the market where android excels.

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole though, partly because I dont buy cheap phones and partly because I don't like android.

Last I saw, ASP of the Lumia range was around $180. That's pretty "arse end" for anybody who isn't a white box. If Lumia were on this chart, it would be awfully close to "Other Android":

I don't really see the point myself. Nokia knows the acquisition is happening. None of their new overlords will be thrilled if they ship an Android. Customers would feel confused at best and abandoned at worst (par for Nokia these days, I guess). And you really can't beat the prices those aforementioned white box OEMs offer unless you're getting subsidized by the PRC and willing to accept margins so faint, they're only detectable by trained hounds.

Why make a move where nobody wins?

Nokia's co-operation with MS was their biggest mistake ever. I'd bet that if Nokia had chosen Android or/and developed Symbian even further they might be still be on the top.

Have you guys heard about the new Finnish mobile developer Jolla? Their phones use Sailfish os that is based on Android.

The news seems official! The Wall Street Journal reports that Nokia will reveal its Normandy phone at the Mobile World Congress later this month. The phone will be named the Nokia X once it starts shipping and note that this Nokia Android phone will include Windows Phone like UI.

Their Windows phone are of such quality...

That being said, it would be a smart move, business-wise. But at the same time, it's like they would admit defeat. Their Windows OS may not be the most popular of all, but it's an excellent OS and I don't think they should call it quit just yet. But if they'd go Android, that certainly wouldn't help WP get more traction.

I for one won't be switching back to Android any time soon. I'll stick to Nokia when I upgrade to a better phone later this year. They make some of the best units on the market.

But this N8 uses Symbian....

Its gonna be terrible if what the rumours say is true since the specs is: the Nokia X will sport 4-inch display (480 x 854 pixels), 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, dual-SIM, a 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, 5MP camera and run a heavily customized version of Android 4.4 KitKat.

I love my Samsung Galaxy S4 and I can't go back to iphone after going Android just cause how much more you can customize everything and just how much more variety the phones and the OS is compared to iphone, but with that being said, Android is also a hard competing market led by Samsung and Google in and the companies and its hard to compete with then, Specially Samsung and with those specs, I don't see this being successful at all even on the low end market...

Those are quite terrible specs indeed. So it's gonna be a cheap smartphone? I remember that Lumia 520 sold quite well so there is a market for these kind of phones.

Without the Google services and Play store... its a dead product.

Amazon's massive market presence is only barely able to keep up with a similar approach.
