Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why should 3rd party dev/publishers market and put effort into their games for wiiU?

Now I know many nintendo fans, myself included, rally to nintendo's defense when there are unwanted and negative attacks against them. Make no mistake you would have to be a serious fool to not see the amount of negative press nintendo has gotten since 2006, mainly from sites and game journalist "lol" that would associate themselves as being  "hardcore" gamers.

But the current situation nintendo finds themselves in with 3rd party support for the wiiU is mostly , not all though, of their own doing.

I have been reading a lot of post around here recently that 3rd party publishers are sending their wiiU games out to the market to die with little to no marketing or promotions, essentially sabotaging their own games. I believe the 3rd party publishers are totally justified in sending their games out without any marketing.

Should 3rd party publishers really be spending big bucks on promoting their wiiU games when nintendo have done so little to market and promote the wiiU themselves?

For the past year it has been barely known that wiiU exist, Nintendo dug their graves with the poor marketing campaign of the wiiU. So if Nintendo can do that to their own system who are 3rd party publishers to do differently.

I see what you mean, but they should at least put some effort into promoting to justify poor sales.

Having a Wii U logo in a game commercial or saying it verbally should be enough marketing for the game on the Wii U. And I know marketing is anecdotal, but I saw a ton of ads for Zombi U and Rayman when they launched.

Your logic goes all the way to: why market any games at all?
First, let me correct marketing with advertising, since its different things. The answer is simple: to get more sales.

Yes.

For me... No reason, I just don't play third party games on the wiiU while I can play them on my PC with better graphics... With that being said, if they could stop putting half-assed games with either missing multiplayer or missing DLC, or overpriced games and etc, then maybe, more people would get third party games on the wiiU

Its just one of those, shitz don't sell cause u don't gave quality shitz on the platform... But yea, sales is usually the #1 reason for anyone to make games on the wiiU... Indie games seems to have success on Nintendo platforms (Some even more than Sony's ironicly enough)

I'd be ok if third parties released versions for the Wii U that are on par with every other release of the same game ie: same content little to no glitches on the e-shop. Sell the games the same way steam sells them on steam. Start off high and have good sales. Nintendo needs to make their next console play these games with no effort from the publishers though. Full backward compatibility without having to jump into another menu unlike trying to play Wii games on the Wii U

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Increase profits.

That is really the only reason.

It's really tough for the 3rd parties right now (if you aren't bayonetta 2 or X which get free promotions by the fans). I assume the cost to market games on the WiiU might overweigh the actual returns so they are advertising it more on the systems where their core audience listens.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

They should let Nintendo published by Nintendo or at least get some mario dlc added to their games if they want any kind of decent sale

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
