Forums - Sony Discussion - Around 60% of PS4 Owners Also Have a PS Vita

umm,.. that's actually kind of a bad statistic knowing how well vita did.

So fast that they've bought 7.5m Vitas in 2 years.

Not sure how the fact that the VITA couldn't drive early adoption detracts from what I said in anyway. Your stat just illustrates what a massive failure Vita is even amongst Sony fans.

However, CLEARLY the people that have bought a PSVita will in the main be big sony fans...

It now appears that these big Sony fans have jumped on the PS4 in a big way, very early.

That is simply undeniable if this stat is true.

People dont buy Vita ( and PS4 )because they are big sony fans.
They buy PS4 because Vita make them Sony fan with wonderful PS+

If you say so...

The VAST majority of Vita owners are existing Sony fans.  Its crazy to think otherwise with such a low install base after 2 years.

PLUS... only 1m people had PS+ before PS4 (a truly shocking stat that came out whilst I was away)

It's crazy to think sony fans support Vita, it's easier to prove it's not the case when you see famous sony games sales , if sony fans were the vast majority of vita owners, vita would sell much better. Vita owners are mostly  gamers who just want to play games on this wonderful system.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

'3m have ps4 and vita, yet only 250k have tried remote play....'
And yet only half have bought ps+ for MP. Maybe the reality is just that a lot of people don't care?

Sure, it's possible that their numbers are flawed, but it should at least be worth looking into what they mean first.

I think more so than their statement being accurate, it's trying to push Vita sales by saying that hey, if you own a PS4, get a Vita because other people are doing the same. Some time ago they made a comment that almost all Vita owners own a PS3 as well.

But you mention how half the PS4 owners purchased PS+ and doubled the PS+ userbase.  If 48% of the Vita sales were digital, most Vita fans would time and time again see PS+ free  games each month.  So since these people clearly have no problem paying for digital games, they just by some chance don't want to pay $50 for free digital games and only after getting a PS4 did these users sign up for the service.

I'm not saying it couldn't be true.  I'm just saying I think it's bs because there are a lot of holes in their information.  Sony doesn't give us numbers.  They give us random estimates so there's really no way of knowing how they're figuring any of this stuff out.  One PSN account could have been used on multiple PS4s and that account could have been used on a Vita.  Does that mean that all those PS4s  that have added that account as a friend account own a Vita?  No, b ut that could be one way Sony is adding it.

Sony could purposefully be skewing those numbers in hopes that people who own a PS4 will buy a Vita just because other PS4 owners have one.

*edit*

And then this thread pops up.

He's saying a lot of people are buying both together.  It sounds like what they're doing is try and use the PS4s popularity to sell PS Vitas.   These comments made in such a close proximity in time can't just be coincidence.

Games need to start supporting second screen. Those are great stats.

Off topic, but I wonder how many WiiU owners also have 3DS?

About 200%

Maybe more like 99.1% -- I don't have a 3DS :P

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

This info would make me nervous if I were Sony.

It could be taken that the 60% of the PS4 numbers are hardcard Sony fans that would buy the console no matter what, cause only those people have Vita's.

So i would be slightly worried that soon the PS4 demand could go down.

At least that is one perspective of this. I don't believe that PS4 demand or sales are going to decline huge, but I do believe that that 60% number will not improve. Vita isn't going to start climbing that charts cuase PS4 is great. That number is just huge at moment cause every huge sony fanboy owns both consoles already.

You're right. That 60% is going to quickly dwindle down unless the Vita turns around. But I doubt it means anything for the PS4, besides that a lot of PlayStation fans bought it at launch -- which is to be expected.

I think good part of these 60% bought Vita due PS4...

Kind of a worrying stat actually.
