Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 questions/concerns

So I got promoted and got a nice chunk of extra money to blow so I bought a PS4, I love it but a few things bug me.

1."Device not supported" message appears when attaching my Vita...wtf is that about?

2.No place to save photos/videos/mp3s

3.Can't buy avatars from the store or even find and install the ones I have already purchased.

I haven't been keeping up with gaming news for the last few months so can someone tell me if they plan on fixing this? A little miffed that this system doesn't have the basic features the PS3 has, still money well spent though.

1. Have you tried a direct link over usb?

2. MP3 support is coming in a future firmware update. Not sure about photo, video.

3. AFAIK you can only change your avatar on PS3, Vita, Facebook, not directly from your PS4 . Pain that such a simple thing involves several hoops. I'm sure they're working to fix this right now.

Congratz on your Purchase, welcome to the Dark(er) side :)

Connecting the usb cable to the ps4 correct? If so yes and nothing positive happened lol.

sweet!

Wait so If I link up facebook people will see that profile pic? I thought it was just for my user icon on the system, not something that everyone else would see (I hope what I said makes sense).

Thanks!

Like he just said.

- Use the PS4 Direct link to link your Viya + PS4.

Some cool features to try out on your PS4.

- Voice commands. Plug in your headphones into the controller and say "PLAYSTATION" this will activate the voice comands option, then use voice commands to select whatever you need on the UI.

-Live From Playstation. Its scary that you can just log onto someones stream with such ease and loose hours of your day just watching Ustreams of Dont Starve. But thats just me.

- Upload your video of you smashing shit up in Need For Speed Rivals. Do it, its easy, its fun, and your rival Facebook friends will never be the same.

- Use the Playstation button. No really, its that simple. Your playing Killzone and your girlfriend decides she wants to watch SOA on Netflix ?, cool, as soon as she goes to the kitchen to make a sandwich, switch back to Killzone for a lil fraggin in between.

1. Is your Vita running the latest firmware?

2. We've been told that support for MP3s is coming at some point. Not sure about videos or pictures.

3. Only way to purchase avatars, or select purchased avatars is through the PS3 at the moment. As for linking your Facebook picture, I think how it works is that only people you share your real name with will see your Facebook picture, otherwise they will just see your avatar.

I forgot all about voice command! First thing I'm messing with when I get home. When SOA is on the world stops, I love that show lol.

This is what I needed. I've flip flopped between an Xbox One and PS4 for months.

PS4: I own a Vita, it's cheaper, it's more powerful

Xbox One: I actually liked Kinect, I already have a Gold subscription, I like the games more

I'm probably gonna end up with both. Certain advantages for each (install speed, etc.) don't matter to me in the least. Anyway, if you have PS4 answers, I got PS4 questions. Some are in the OP but I'll ask again, anyway.

-PS4 web browser: Is is a HUGE improvement over the PS3 because the PS3 browser is kinda unusable for me right now.
-Can I copy video/music/pics from an HDD to the PS4 and play them from that? I do that with my PS3 a lot.
-Do digital games like Flower roll over to the PS4 or is that a different purchase completely?
-How good is the Vita Remote Play? Hopefully better than the PS3. I want to play Tomb Raider in different rooms of the house.
-Does it ever overheat or any other technical issues? Freezing, resets, disconnects

Yup, I can do remote play but stuff like content manager won't work but I guess that would be tied to the system not supporting photos/videos or mp3s

Thanks for the confirmation on the FB linking, any idea why such basic features are missing? Did they rush it to beat MS?

Nope and it sucks because I did that alot on my ps3 too.

Sadly no, unless I missed something. I don't even see the option to purchase them, I'm pretty sure they said it would be available but I guess the question is "when".

Haven't tried it yet, If it works with any game I'll try it with Shadowfall and let you know unless someone can answer this now.
-Does it ever overheat or any other technical issues? Freezing, resets, disconnects

I only have had mine sinceFriday but it kept cool after 10 hours of gameplay.

That's good to know.   My little nephew got both for Christmas (which was the last time I've touched the consoles) and his Xbox One has overheated and shut off a few times--as a fail safe, I assume.  It also disconnected fromt he internet TWICE while he was redeeming some sort of codes for Madden or NBA2K.  How do I know?  Because I made his Xbox Live email address so he and Microsoft talk to ME when things go wrong.  Pissess me off when I get called at random moments to speak to customer service about a problem I'm not having.
