Yikes, hopefully nothing happens, but man, they're poking at a sleeping bear when it comes to the US Navy.

i was in the usnavy back in 89' , and yes they are poking a very big bear!

i was on cv-59, an also on  my last tour of duty being

the USS_Bainbridge_(CGN-25)

and as you can see with

Armament: 2 Terrier SAM launchers (80 Missiles), 2 × 3"/50, ASROC (8 Missiles), 6 × 12.75" torpedo tubes, 8 Harpoon SSM

like that along with support and the AEGIS Fire Control System

the ships in a conflict with the US Navy in a Nav War would no go so well with both sides getting hit. but with the advanced systems the USNavy has its not somthing you want to just go and right challenge so quick, you have to be really commited to do it, and you know your going to take very heavy casualties in doing so.

for instance in the case of those 8 Harpoon SSM's you have quite the range maNY TIMES ON YOUR TARGET BEFORE HE EVEN GETS CLOSE!,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpoon_(missile)

add in the

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomahawk_cruise_missile

"In May 2009, Raytheon Missile Systems proposed an upgrade to the Tomahawk Block IV land-attack cruise missile that would allow it to destroy or disable large, hardened warships at 900 nautical miles (1,700 km) range. This upgrade has been funded

which by the way can be launched from sub's or battleships hell even destroyers! can carry them

I wanna see some action, hope they shoot a gun or two, or cannon or whatever, i don't know anything about war ships.

- for someone who may know more than me, just out of curiosity, of course considering the potential risks, would it be easy for a (1) plane (like an F 22 or whatevs) to take down a ship like this?

436ft

- What i mean is, in a perfect scenario would a combat plane be able to destroy it easily? or would it take some shots? or it wouldn't be able to? :)

I doubt it would be that easy. Just think of the USS Liberty, the ship that israeli jet fighters attacked during the six-day war in a false flag attack, in order to drag the US into the war. It was "only" a technical research ship (so probably not as heavily armored as a true warship), several israeli aircrafts attacked it for hours, and yet, it simply wouldn't sink.

That incident btw may have been one of the biggest and underestimated miracles in history - LBJ had already sent bombers to Cairo, which according to certain sources were armed with nuclear weapons. It was pretty much in the very last moment, when it became clear that the ship hadn't sunk and eyewitnesses had survived that LBJ called back the bombers. That day, the world may have actually been even closer to the brink of a nuclear world war than during the cuba crisis.

Many of our bombers can pop in so high they can't even see it visually and their radar can't pick us up, garuntee it. They wouldn't really need the navy come close either really as some of the range on our weapons can just outman anything they have. Air force and Navy could blow it up without them even being detected.

you bring up a very great point, but also add into that i was on the uss forrestal, it was the very 1st supercarrier we had built in the US Navy the thing is unlike most supercarrier's today the ships that were much older were built with steel belted Hull's!

not just small steel, 2" thick yes even on a supercarrier! the battleships were 17" thick plate steel belted Hull! add in advanced fire control systems and ani-missile systems and forward observation planes with fighter jets. you kinda get the picture.

the main spaces sometimes @ sitrep had to be repaired in drydock so you get first hand experience with looking at lots of rusted surface steel in those sections below the water line..grin

Those planes were not really....the best planes in the day and best not to be used as a comparison to what a US bomber can do especially by todays standards. They used no true bombers as well. Fighters are mainly made for knocking other planes out of the sky. Planes in that attack are below.

Lol. No offense but US coast guard will beat them easily. They don't have to bother US navy.

Honestly this just made me laugh.  I mean ok fine, let's just send 100 destroyers to their border!
