Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will we ever get a new 2D Metroid game again?

I truly wonder about this . The last 2D Metroid game we got was Metroid Zero Mission in 2004 and since then we got absolutely nothing. There was the rumored DS game Metroid Dread, but it is unknown if it is cancelled or not. Sakamoto said   a few years ago that Nintendo would return to the game after they are done with Other M, but we haven't heard anything about this since then. It's probably better this way since Sakamoto is not good at directing games anymore.

It is  pretty much confirmed that the next 3D Metroid  game will come for the Wii U at some point, but what about the 2D Metroid games? Are they dead forever?

I'd say Metroid 5 is next in line for release on 3DS, maybe even Super Mission

I'd really love this. I'm sure that tons of people would. "Samus's New Metroid" - to fall in line with 'Yoshi's New Island.'

They should make one for 3DS.

I'd consider it practically a guarantee. The 3DS will almost certainly have a 2.5D Metroid, and at some point, I'm betting Return of Samus will get remade, just as the original was with Zero Mission.

No remakes. The last great 2D game was Fusion for GBA and that's how the series should progress imo. That game was great and showed that they can still make Metroid internally.

Zero Mission was oh so much better than Fusion.

That was the last great 2D Metroid, Fusion was far too linear (but still good)

Yes but unlike Zero Mission, Fusion was 100% original and not a remake. That's why it gets the nod for me.

When we want it the least, you know Nintendo. Delete this thread before Miyamoto sees it.
