Fuck me the guy is trying to learn something and the so called computer experts are dissing him for wanting to learn.

Help him understand where he is right or wrong and elaborate where it needs to be.

Sorry OP haven't kept up with tech to give you an answer.

Exactly. Especially the first posters aren't experts, either ;)

But I see Pemalite was 14 minutes here before me so I don't have to answer OP ;)

I might not be an expert but at least I tried.  No one else was answering at the time.

I have a feeling that was supposed to be directed towards me ... Oh well it's a good thing that I'm not entering the console wars.

No problem with that, really. The question in such a case is

a) what do I answer

b) how do I answer

You didn't fail in both which is ok if you are not cofident in this case.

Some failed in both and still are not confident in this case

Congratulations to the Op for single handedly getting me to register on a site i had been browsing for years just to inquire if he was drunk while typing his post, for it makes absolutely zero sense. Now im aware this is kind of rude and it might get me banned, which i honestly couldn't care less. It just had to be done.

It's not that we won't need such a valuable new member...

I did a little research and found the x86-64, which theorically see 128 GIGS on RAM.  Of course I was confused a little since I haven't done hardware stuff in a while.  More reseatrch revealed that x84-62 uses twice as much CPU power as a X64 processor since you constantly have to swap bits in the RAM on x86-64.

....

You didn't have to upgrade to 64 bit just to access more than 4 GB RAM. That's a very bad excuse. The future is 64 bit, so if you want to go 64 bit, please go by all means, but currently, the vast majority of software is either written in 32 bit or have 32 bit versions (I am yet to find a single program that doesn't run on 32 bit). Besides, there are also very few programs that run faster at 64 bit than 32 bit, but there are a substantial amount of programs that run either faster or more efficiently on 32 bit.

This being said, it is very easy to have access up to 64 GB RAM on a 32 bit Windows 7. You just need to patch the Windows with PAE (this is not a hack, the code is IN THE WINDOWS KERNEL). The patch just activates it. There are programs that do this automatically. Here is a common one.

hmmmm, thanks. I guess I was confusing PC with consoles.

Of course I JUST read that the x86-64 architecture can access more registers. Also elsewhere it says x86-64 is better for games, don't know if that means PC games, consoles games or both.

And why not just install the 64 bit version? There is no disadvantage as you can run 32bit-code in a 64bit environment.

Adobe premiere has been x64 exclusive for a few years now. And PAE allows going over the 4gb limit overall, but single processes are still limited to the 2gb/per process limit of win32

I would have preferred OP to go to sites like anandtech or toms hardware instead of console war ridden fests like youtube or vgchartz to get some real answers.
