If you really believe that, then you obviously aren't really aware of the actual financial status of each company right now.

To be honest their both in trouble for the most part. The one who's in the least trouble is microsoft despite the fact that the xbox brand hasn't made them money yet. Nintendo's long term future is bleak because they serverely damaged their handheld brand. Sony's short term future looks bad because they have to restructure the company and add to the fact that they have being hit with massive losses in the past. From this point onwards Sony Electronics is no more and instead will be known as Sony Insurance due to the fact that it's their biggest money maker alongside with the entertainment division.

Just because Nintendo has alot of money in their reserves doesn't mean that they won't lose it. What you keep in the race matters more and this time Nintendo will be dropping alot of money in due time.

You do know that Nintendo has been around for over 100 years right? According to Google, Nintendo was founded in 1889 and Sony was founded in 1986 and Microsoft in 1975... That means that Nintendo had to go through over 100 years of being doomed yet they aren't doomed yet... If anything, between the three companies, Nintendo is probably the most resilient company ever... Not to say or undermine that Sony and MS aren't the same, but that experience obviously counts for something...

@Bold Pretty sure Sony was founded in 1946 according to wikipedia ...

Since when was nintendo doomed for 100 years ? They were only doomed by the market when they released the N64. Experience counts for something alright but I can't see how their going to get anymore profits when their most profitable part of the business has dried up ... If Nintendo resorts to making another gamecube sometime in the short term while pulling off another 3DS (Which was essentially a PS3 style esque move.) in their handheld market then they really shouldn't be bothering in the gaming market.

Sorry, Typo*

And yes, they have been doomed for over 100 years by many people... One of the examples where Nintendo was doomed was their large investments into love hotels in Japan where it clearly didn't succeed and there are other examples, I am sure... Heck, I can't even imagine what it must have been like to go from love hotels to gaming... They are just sooo different but thats one of the ways they adapted... I know they can't seem to adapt worth shit these days but again... 100+ years of doomed

Obviously Nintendo ... I mean their profits from the 3DS is drying up fast while they have to ride on a console with absolutely no future to boot.

As for Sony they should have dropped their TV division ages ago instead of pouring in billions. It's good that they are separating themselves now but the damage has being done.

How has Nintendo damaged there handheld brand? Ya it wont come close to DS sales but is still on pace to do similar numbers to GBA (80 million or so). According to this site, it has sold 13-15 million for 3 consecutive years I would say thats still pretty damn strong sales.

Nintendo's 3DS is essentially a lot like the PS3 in many respects. They both represent a decline in brand. Both of them were damaged because it was overpriced. Both of those systems had worthless features to gaming such as bluray (Although it later became useful when games were starting to get massive early in this generation.) or 3D. Both of the systems had to be saved with price cuts and quality games later on.

In short the 3DS is like nintendo's version of the PS3.

Well acording to vgchartz sony is doomed end of dicussion

Nintendo had a console (Gamecube) that only sold 22 million consoles but was able to sell 77 million copies of the 45 1st party games they released, so it made a small profit. Lets just say every Gamecube had a pack in game, that means Nintendo sold no less then 55 million 1st party games.

Sony had a console (PS3) that sold 80+ million consoles but was only able to sell 124 million copies of 103 1st party titles they releaded and it ended up taking a loss. Atleast 20 million of those PS3's came with a packed in 1st party game, which would mean Sony sold about 104 million 1st party games.

The lack of interest in Sony's 1st party software is why the Vita has really failed as well. Pokemon X/Y has outsold every 1st party Vita game combined. Nintendo's software alone will keep them in business forever, or at the very least until their software quality goes to shit.

Nintendo is in a much better position because the suffering they would endure if they decided to create only software and no longer hardware, would be smaller than the suffering Sony would have to go through if they decided to no longer make TVs (among other things that are losing them money).

By the way, Nintendo may stop creating hardware not only because of a failure like the Wii U, but because consoles may become obsolet, I doubt we will ever see a Playstation VI, perhaps a Netflix for videogames that would work on all tvs will come in the next 10 years.
