When the PS4 exclusive free to play game Deep Down was fully unveiled at Tokyo Game Show, Capcom promised it would start its beta around the Japanese launch of Sony’s new console on February 22nd, but looks like development will take a little longer, as revealed by Producer Kazunori Sugiura in a group interview on Dengeki Online.

About Deep Down, I think we’ll give full fledged information to everyone after the summer, so you may have to wait for a little while beyond the launch [of PS4] on February 22nd.

Since we don’t want to risk to be told “This could have been done on PS3!”, we want to finish a game that fully uses the PS4 hardware specs.

Producer Yoshinori Ono also echoed the sentment, mentioning that the development team is doing its very best and putting the maximum effort into making steady progress in developing the game, in order to create a truly new experience.

Personally, I never find any issue with developers taking more time to deliver the best experience. You get only one shot at releasing a game, and it’s definitely better for it to be late than underwhelming.

A shame. Still on the verge on this one for beeing F2P, but still, it is shaping to be awesome.

That's one way to look at it, but you're right.

Being on this website primarily, sometimes i forget that you can just read something and move on!

Good. So many games getting gimped to run on last gen, their potential wasted so that a few more people will buy it. I get that it's understandable that they want to earn more money, but when a game that could really benefit from being next gen gets gimped so that it can run on a last gen machine, it just makes me sad. Kind of like when the Wii got games that could benefit from having motion controls but instead they made it the "hold the Wiimote sideways" setup, and I just wished I could play it on a Gamecube. If you make a new machine, you should release games that deliver an experience you can't get on other machines, you know? It makes me really glad to see them actually trying to make this game all it can be. Here's hoping this doesn't translate into just slightly more polished graphics, but a real gameplay difference. Like bigger worlds, a grander scale of things, feats that take advantage of the huge resources the PS4 has available to create a new experience.
