CD Projekt RED In Trouble? The Witcher 3 Gameplay Designers Leave The Studio

Marek Ziemak (gameplay producer at CDPR) and Maciej Szczesnik (lead gameplay designer of The Witcher series) have left CD Projekt RED, something that has been confirmed by Szczesnik himself. These two fellas are joining an indie team 11 Bit Studios and it really puzzles us why they have left CDPR. Moreover, will this have any affect on the game itself? Will its gameplay mechanics change – or have already changed?

As Szczesnik said on a statement:

“I’ll be responsible for the entire design of a game that took shape in my imagination. It’s a really exciting feeling to create a new world from scratch, make its characters and rules and to know that I have this blank page to fill with my ideas and then bring them to life.”

CD Projekt RED has not commented yet on this story. Still, this could be – perhaps – a good thing. Let’s be optimistic for a change. If these guys have left CDPR and their work is done, it may mean that the game is approaching its final stage of development.

It's still pretty far from release. Strange news.

Not exactly the greatest news but hopefully it won't affect the final project... I can't wait to play this game, the Witcher 2 was soo damn good

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

They could've finished their part of the witcher 3 and feel like they need a new challenge. Design is what happens at the start of a game and not at the end (I think).
I'm not an expert in this things but I think it went something like this.

Didn't something like that happen to Bioshock Infinite? And we all know how awfully terrible that game turned out to be because of that.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Game developers leave studios constantly to go work elsewhere. They will likely have finished their part on Witcher 3. Probably not as big deal

Those news don't inspire confidence in the game, but I hope they find good replaces. After all, neither of them had those roles in The Witcher 2.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I don't think this will have an influence on the development of The Witcher 3. Developers have contracts, and they have to "respect" them. He'll probably do what he has to do.

But to be honest, I'm more worried about Cyberpunk 2077. Was he working on this game as well ?

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

Seems like the game is being rushed or large amounts of content have been cut to meet deadlines. No designer of a AAA-title would leave unless something goes completely wrong.

Not cool

Hopefully this doesn't have too big of an impact on the final game.
