Heh, I knew that. I'm not sure why I said Vaio instead of Bravia though >_<

You know I'm not entirely sure how seperating their TV line into a different company will make it profitable though.

Well, in my opinion it's more of a sign to investors that the division can easily be sold off, if it continues to post bad results and might make things easier for potential buyers. Additionally it could "motivate" the Bravia management to improve the recovery efforts.

Maybe it enables the cancellation of some old contracts with employees or supplers aswell, but I'm not sure about that one.

Very true.

I wouldn't think it has to do with the cancellation of old contracts because generally contracts in the business setting aren't really long (I believe they usually are a year or two at the most).

So about their TV business, if they spin it off into its own company, then that means it won't be apart of Sony anymore? Like instead of selling it off they are just cutting them loose to fend for themselves?

Either way if the TV business won't impact Sony financials then I consider that another division cut off.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Oh shit the TV division too? I missed that part.

Jeff Loeb is half getting his way.

Instead of spinning off entertainment for a profit, they are spinning off/selling everything else for a loss.

Not so much cancellation but....

say Bravia TV company which is owned mostly by Sony goes out of buisness.

Well, they go bankrupt.

Guess who owes all those Bravia factory workers their pensions?

Bravia TV company.

Who owes companies for parts?
Bravia TV company.

Sony is just a stockholder... and probably just one of many.

At least i'm PRETTY sure that's how it works.

If Samsung offered passive 3D, I'd consider their TVs. As it stands, F them.

BTW, holy shit looooooooooooooool: http://www.samsung.com/sg/activevspassive3d/

I don't know all details about the company but one thing does make sense. Better to spin off or sell of a money leaking division or department at a loss and focus on other things than keep it around for years losing money and hoping for a better outcome that is unlikely to happen.

I could totally be wrong but doesnt this also aide them in the letting go of so many employees due to the really protective labor laws in Japan.

so to sum it up, The tv part still will be in the consolidated reports, but when it goes it has less consequences but the employees are screwed

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Can someone explain to me how "spinning off" a division(tvs) will help make more profit than keeping it under one umbrella.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
