Forums - PC Discussion - Kingdoms of Amalur: ohmygosh i didnt think it was that cool.

Since steam offers Amalur for 5,99€ this weekend, i bought it and hoped to get a good hour out of it. or two. (just purchased tomb raider and intended to play that, mainly).. now, 1,5 day's later, i can wholeheartedly recomend this game. like, i thought "meh", all the time seeing or reading reviews, heck i even borrowed the game on PS3 a while back and didnt even touch it. after the first hours have passed and i got a good selection of skills and gear, i cant help myself but to run into enemy packs repeadetly instead of progressing in the plot, just because its almost extatic running around like a superhero on crack while listening to Freedom Call.  (kinda reminds me of killing spree's in WoW's battlegrounds)

dis gaem is cool.

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

The Angry Joe review sold me on it.
Getting to it soon enough, myself. Good to hear positive feedback.

I have the game on my to do list.

From the little i played the game was incredibly enjoyable. It was a shame what happened to the developer.

Not only that but i would've liked to have played their MMO if Reckoning was anything to go by. With that said, i wish they had just focused on single player games. I'm sure they would've survived if they had.
Unfortunely, just like Darksiders, this IP is pretty much doomed without a developer... and i most certainly dont put my hopes on a company such as EA.

Yeah this game is great.. never did finish it... my PS3 died before I could... 40 hours gone :(

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

I played just one game... it is a ok franchise... repetitive but 7.5 or 8.0 out of 10 for sure.

Yea, it's a pretty cool game. Got it free with PS+. Put it to the side to play other games from Plus, like Bioshock Infinite. I really need to get back to playing this game.

I had to give the game up. Great stuff but my looting OCD got the better of me. Couldn't advance anymore because I had to stop at every free loot opportunity.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Good game, needs a lot of polish though.

I dropped a lot of hours into Amalur. It's a good game and the amount of work they put into it is amazing.

My complaint? The game is too big. That sounds odd to say about an RPG but, honestly, I just ran out of steam trying to do all the quests. I wanted to see and do everything, which is simple at first, but when all the different zones open up, it's just too massive. There was still a third of the first continent left unexplored when I cleared the storyline events to go to the next. There is a point where you can open the way forward by going north or south, both will get you where you need to go, but the kind of player I am, I decided to do both. By the time I was done, I was overpowered and my enthusiasm for the game-play was gone. I got bored and moved on to other games without leaving for the next area. I'm a bit sad about that.

The game file is also so massive that I can't imagine downloading it again. I had to delete a ton of stuff from my PS3 and it took like a full night and half a day to finish.

The developers should have made the game smaller, to be honest. They could have saved a LOT of money, as the north and south use totally different assets.

Loading times were also beastly on the PS3. It's a shame there won't be a sequel on next gen, as the game could really have benefited from all that RAM. I would hate to know how much time I wasted looking at loading screens. What I REALLY hated, though, was going into cities. EACH TIME you zone in and out of an area in the city, you HAVE TO WATCH a panoramic cut-scene of the landscape. That's even if you just pop into a tavern to buy a potion; when you come out, cut-scene. Worst decision ever.

It's really a shame there won't be more, though. I'm sure they would have learned a lot from the first game and made it even better. It's a high-quality franchise and an entertaining game.

Edit:  Oh, and I want to mention Blacksmithing.  It's fun and addicting.  I liked that a whole lot.  I was constantly breaking stuff in order to make more gear.  Unfortunately, it's also mega-overpowered.  Max level Blacksmithing is like having 5-10 levels over your enemies.  Find some really good weapon parts and you will SLAY.  Very rarely will you find a weapon in the wild as good as what you can craft--and if you do, you can break it down and make something even stronger, especially with high-level gem crafting.

It's an amazing game. I've beaten it twice, once with 100% completion, which took me 160 hours and once with only story and no side quests on hard, took me 40 hours.

The story is weak though and the dialogue is terrible. The gameplay is where this gem shines.
