Just check the Wiki pages for each console's announced games. PS4: ~180ish to XBone: ~110ish
The 2014 lineup for PS4 is so much more dense in terms of exclusives (not to mention better performing x-platforms)
Sure, some of those will get delayed until 2015. Same for XBone's exclusives.
But PS4 will clearly be getting a solid library across many genres in 2014.

Only looking at launch titles is pretty weird. If any of your dorm pals want to play an MLB game they will be dissappointed with XB1(the only mlb game, the show, is sony developed). Also, if they are the CoD fanbase they would be better served with the ps4 being cheaper and delivering better quality. Also, from EAs recent comments I wouldnt bet on Titanfall being a generation exclusive. Not to mention ps+ > xbl

Your dorm should probably have this info to make an informed decision. But hey, its your $500.

In my dorm everyone had the sense to buy a gaming PC, since games were just a click away from working on an essay, and sharing files over the uni network and playing massive death matches in ut2k3 was all the rage.

Do you mean just the 1st Titanfall or the whole franchise?

From what i seen, they made it sound like the 1st Titanfall will stay exclusive and the rest will come to PS4.

But then again, Mass Effect was also supposed to stay xbox-console-only and we all know what happened.

I'm actually expecting the next Titanfall to SOMEHOW find its way to being exclusive to X1 again. I can just feel it 

i just dont see Titanfall being a X1 system seller, first off its not a exclusive to the X1 its on 360 and pc as well,  i dont see someone upgrading to a x1 from a 360 for titanfall, and those that only have a ps4 they can buy it for the pc.  on top of that the PS4 does have a better games outlook.  They have a much wider variety of exclusives, they arent all shooters of some sort like MS seems to have, on top of that you can expect Sony to have at least 1 new IP this gen, they have had at least 2 new IP's each Gen so far.  The MS fanbase is just as loyal, loud and Arrogant.  

The longevity of titanfall hinges on the community and how well it gets supported and balanced, it could easilly become a commercial success but a critical failure if they don't have the balance just right.

If that happens a second game will flop like a wet paper bag..

We won't fund that out until a few months post release.

Sony fanbase are neither of those things. Majority of Sony fanbase has/going to purchase a Wii U or own a high end gaming pc.  The part I just dont agree with.  Also both launch line-ups are trash.

Ninja Gaiden 2 was published by MS, Bioshock and lost planet were suppose to be exclusive and like you said ME. I wouldnt be surprised if Titanfall is still just timed.
