Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox One: 1080p/60fps Not Happening Anytime Soon, Not Enough Power But Tools Will Improve

That's both debatable and also irrelevant. The only 2 exclusive games we can really compare right now are Ryse and Killzone, and they are hardly comparable anyway. Ignoring their totally different art styles and camera, one went for more confined environments, a lower resolution and less real time events on screen, the other went with large open areas, high amounts of on screen events, a higher resolution and a higher frame rate.

Seeing as the opinion on the two is very split, and they are so different both in their style and tech, we can't really compare them. Until we have actual comparable games (Uncharted/Gears - Killzone/Halo), all discussion on the matter are pointless. All we can legitimately compare right now are the multi-plats, and the X1 is being rather consistently butt sapped in that area.

Im guessing you didn't actually play Ryse. Hell 5 seconds into the game there are guys all over the screen with a massive battle unfolding. Explosions, debris and fire all over the damn place.

I've only played about an hour of Ryse, but seen a lot of footage from back when it interested me slightly.

The scale in Ryse is an illusion. It's a lot easier to make a large scale battle when the player is secluded from the majority of it (its the same method of scale used in the God of War games). When you confine the player to specific areas (like the bridge in Ryse) you can spend more time, money and console resources on making it look good. Killzone on the other hand has slightly less detailed environments around the player, instead favoring larger intractable areas, a higher resolutions and a higher frame rate.

I'm not saying either is a better method, just very different. Two games that priorities completely different things are very hard to compare. The fact they also use a different camera and completely different art styles just makes the comparison even worse xD

I'll be interesting to compare the next Uncharted to Ryse. Same camera angle and similar methods of visual prioritizing.

I'd honestly buy a Wii U and a PS4 over an XBone. Seems like a much better match together than anything else.

Isn't Forza 5 1080@60?

Forza 5 is 1080P native and locked at 60FPS.

So what you're saying is that the last 13 pages of discussion can be summed up with "but it already does that." Rad.

PS3 can do that too. That's not the point, though. In multiplatform games, the Xbox One version will be inferior in either resolution, fps or both. It's easy to make a 1080p60fps game that looks like Minecraft, for example.

Problem is, that WAS the point of your original post and is even the TITLE of your friggen thread.  The problem is you knew you couldn't make a thread comparing mutiplats, because that had been done 100x already.  So you tried to sneak in your fanboyism using a different topic (which is erroneous) and that's what pisses me off.

"Dodd said that we won’t be seeing games running at 60 FPS and 1080p resolution any time soon."

We already do.

"As for 1080p/60fps – not anytime soon...”

Again, already happened on Xbox One.

This is like comparing a Ferrari to an Impala and saying the Ferrari has faster acceleration to 100 MPH.  Everyone agrees.

Then you say, the Impala cannot do 100 MPH at all, which is not true, only to change the topic back to how the Ferrari can get to 100 MPH faster than the Impala.  Bait and switch.

Industry insider Pete Dodd revealed some interesting information via Twitter. After all the leaks and rumours regarding Xbox One exclusives like Halo 5 and Halo 2 Anniversary, Dodd said that we won’t be seeing games running at 60 FPS and 1080p resolution any time soon.

Dodd first talked about the UI and stated that, “I talked to so many devs who said the UI was a mess. They did a great job pulling it together.” This was the case even though, “It crashed a lot of debug units right up till launch. System launched…Stable UI.”

He also made sure to clarify that when it comes to graphics, “Cloud won’t help with rendering. Not for half a decade at minimum. As for 1080p/60fps – not anytime soon but tools will improve.” When asked if freeing up the GPU for more usage – as indicated by an 8 percent gain in usage for developers – helps, Dodd stated, “A little. Card is still weak. Worst decision they made making the box. Kinect is expensive so they went with a cheap gpu.”

Dodd did say that the problem isn’t the amount of RAM, as indicated by a user who believes the console should have had 12 GB DDR3 RAM to compete with the PS4′s 8 GB GDDR5 RAM. “The problem isn’t the amount, it’s the speed. Plenty of room to store 1080p textures, just not enough speed or power to output it.”

Well yeah, that is general programming.

However tools which make things dev quicker, but may not improve graphics and performance as;

a) the architecture is what controls the power

b) these are already somewhat easy to program for compared to last gen so they will be doing a fairly good job already.

Fifa 14 and NBA 2K14 are also 1080P native and run at 60FPS.

Does Pete Dodd remind anyone else of CBOAT?

Well, at least I can read Dodd's stuff  just fine. CBOAT's stuff is simply unreadable. It looks like he headbutted his keyboard a couple of times and then posted the result on the internet.

The reason CBOAT posts the way he does is to hide his identity.  Basically if he posted normally he might make certain spelling or grammer errors or his writing style would be familiar enough to give away his real identity away.  To me this suggests he likely also uses another NeoGAF account and/or he has stuff posted elsewhere like a blog or magazine or whatever.  That still leaves a lot of people but Pete Dodd gives me the CBOAT vibe (not from spelling or grammer errors obviously) but I'm probably wrong since there are a lot of posters and what are the chances...

FIFA is 30fps in some modes and 60fpsin others. NBA 2k14 is 60fps. In both cases PS4 version shows better AA and these are sports games lol

Sport games...very demanding genre.

Ugh, seriously? They already confirmed Halo 5 or whatever is 1080p60. Plus Forza and other games do it.

The GPU's between the two really aren't that different. Both are underpowered as they should have been 2.5 Tflops, but even then isn't that much of a change - as you need to double power for humans to really notice.

Stop spreading FUD!

Yeah... the PS4's GPU is just ~50% more powerful, not that big a diffrence...

Stop spreading FUD!

Then why is the best looking game for the new gen a 2nd party game on the Xbox One?

Best looking game? According to who???

Nice attempt but your comparing apples to oranges. Compare like for like and you'll notice the PS4 is better!

What the fuck? I wasn't comparing both PS4 and Xbox versions to each other.
