Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is it panic time for Microsoft?

In the US, its doing better than i thought.

In the rest of the world, its gonna be destroyed. It will be competing with the Wii U.

Microsoft doesnt realise it yet, but they have sunk their business last year. It will be difficult to dig out of the hole they are in. Of course, im sure that in the US they will remain competitive with their FPS and TPS and their military games. But, first place is beyong their reach. They will be beat at least by double the ammount of systems.

I don't get it, if a console isn't first then why do people think it is a failure. The one is doing ok, it just needs a no kinect bundle in europe.

This! The X1 is selling like 4 times as much as Wii U in US and it's weekly sales are a little above PS4 in the US. Not being the #1 console doesn't make you a failure.

Did you all hate your PS3s/360s for the several years when Wii was dominant? Wii is still the most numerous of last/current gen consoles, I guess it is the best and most important one in all of your eyes?

No, and even if the PS4 hits 80m and the Xbox One is only at 40m, it'll still be doing better than a large portion of consoles of previous generations.

No reason to panic.

Sales of X1 are well above Wii U and it looks like they will meet their set conservative targets easily.

Game wise, MS is looking great this year with Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall, Kinect Sports Rivals, and probably Halo 2 Anniversary and Forza Horizon 2 as for very probable titles. And down the pipe they have a new Gears of War, Halo 5, Fable Legends, and rumored Crackdown 3 for sure. And I am sure they are working on new stuff as well.

Dashboard wise, MS has created a great architecture that can be enhanced and improved as required so the experience will keep getting better. And in doing so, it will draw press attention.

Hardware wise, they started $100 more expensive then PS4 and they have larger hardware. This will give them more opportunities to do price drops and slimmer re-designs.

As for Europe, MS cannot win this generation there. Their best hope is in the UK and that will be a saw-off with Sony. In Japan... Well, that's Sony / Nintendo territory and home turf. Always has been, always will be.

They have the best software lineup for 2014 and the deepest pocket to destroy Sony and Nintendo if they feel like to. And the sold 3.9 million consoles with a $500 price tag.

They will be fine.

you mean Shipped 3.9 not sold.

Well it won't surpass PS4 and may not sell 360s lifetime, it is very early and certainly is more profitable out the gate then 360 was.

Profitability and MS's quarterly statements tell me no, they aren't panicking.

Dunno about panicking, but MS has seriously tarnished their reputation with the XBox One.
I picked up Tombraider for ps4 today, had to wait around for a bit for the ups truck to arrive since it was sold out. So while talking to the store owner he asked me carefully if I was a big microsoft fan, then admitted it's hard to stay impartial this time. He's a big fan of xbox 360, but the Xbox One has been nothing short of a disaster so far for him.

He had a customer without internet, np bring it in to do the day 1 update. Turned out the console wasn't working by the time he brought it in. According to tech support the power brick had died (light came on but no power to the xbox one), 10-14 days for replacement. When it was finally working again he decided to set up DR3 for the customer, 4GB patch which took hours to download (small store, basic cable internet), then over an hour wait for the game to install to 50% before it would start. All together it took most of the day to get it ready, pretty embarrassing to have to ask your customer multiple times, got anything else to do in town?, it's still going....

He only sold 1 copy of Tombraider on xbox one so far, all Xbox one games are in stock, ps4 game shelf half empty. It's just a small store, but it can't be a good thing when the people who sell your product can't stand it.

If EU numbers dont pick up, do they panick?

With Halo and Titanfall coming this year? They don't have to worry

Panick is a strong word. They panicked at E3 2013. They will remain profitable and be competitive.
