Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How can anyone defend Nintendo now?

I understand you, life is hard. We can't have everything in life. If you want Nintendo games you will have to get a Wii U. I know... it sucks that the PS4 can't run Super Mario 3D World.

1. Investors. Investors want diversity but not like what was announced. They wanted Nintendo to publish software on other devices not start a new health-care business.

I know a few share holders and that is the last thing they wanted (actually I've been looking into buying stock in them myself); most of them wanted Nintendo to expand outside gaming, its something I was waiting for before investing but I am still kinda waiting on them to expand into phone based hardware production. Still its good to see Nintendo have a desire to continue slowly morphing their business, and atleast this isn't more Japanese sex hotels.

In my experience its Sony and Microsoft's fans (and share holders) who promote the idea of Nintendo being on other devices.

2. Nintendo gamers. The new business model will likely just hurt gamers because it will draw away resources from the gaming divisions to run the health care pillar. No plans to drop the gamepad also hurts gamers who want just a non-gimmicky controller and console. In fact, they announced plans to expand use of the gamepad which seems to cater to very young children instead. I can't think of an adult who enjoys the Skylander/Infinite gimmick. This is bad news for adult Wii U owners.

The gamepad is an advancement which needs to be experienced. It won't be experienced if its not packed in. Sadly the slow sales of the Wii-U have less to do with the console itself and more to do with a bad reputation. Creating an "exercise console" is a great way to alleviate that IN THEORY and allow the Wii-U to be the core-console it's destined to be.

3. Non-Nintendo gamers. Everyone else basically. We want to play Nintendo games on our HD console of choice. Some people would probably buy the Wii U if it dropped to that $199 sweet-spot with a pro controller SKU. No new price cuts will definitely turn away potentially new customers.

You define yourself as non-Nintendo... thats like calling yourself anti-deity in a fantasy world and then being surprised when said deities answer your neighbour's prayers and don't throw you a little something for existing. Hail Farore!

4. Third parties. There was no solid strategy presented to attract 3rd parties to the Wii U.

Crossovers are coming; any money says FExSMT, Hyrule Warrios and probably "Pokken" are just the tip of the ice-berg.

So who is defending Nintendo now and why? With only some 2-3 games headed for the Wii U this spring, are you still satisfied with your purchase?

One of those games is Mario Kart. Sooo... me, me, hell yes me. I'll be playing that bitch for ATLEAST five years.

Lol, 3rd parties are no must for me, they are just spices. My main course is, and have always been, the first party games. I love my Wii U, and unless a certain other company, even though it have bombed so far they are not showing signs of dropping support. Unless they do that, my critisism is limited.

I play my Wii and own every Nintendo system set up to SCART cables. I've played Nintendo since 1985.

I have never seen a system come out with such poor performance. Yeah i'm sure new Super Mario Bros Wii U and Super Luigi not Brothers Wii u (how they cross off Luigi on the title) but the rest is like barely on par, or sub par with the last gen consoles, that quite simply is unexceptable.

See back in the day when people defended SEGA and the Dreamcast, it made sense, PS2 wasn't online and i was playing Phantasy Star Online, NFL 2K (online), NBA 2k (online), MLB 2k (online), Quake Arena (online) all over a dial up connection between 1999-2002 before PS2 even had network capabilities. THAT made sense it had SOMETHING HUGE LIKE ONLINE PLAY as an exclusive to the SEGA brand during that time period. THAT made sense.

What is exclusive like that on the Wii u? Unlike the Dreamcast the hardware was, Wii U is behind the times (the Dreamcast actually outdoes lots of PS2 games and allows for 480p which the PS2 does not, and i would argue that the games look better than Wii games many times) in terms of Graphics Capability. And if you think it doesn't matter, try busting out your Wii again, that 480p is hard on the eyes after you been playing 1080 or even 720 on the last gen consoles. The Wii U has nothing i can't get on my XBOX 360 or PS3 or my PC except first party games which aren't even there yet anyways. A couple Mario sequels, nothing of the Super Mario Galaxy proportions.

It just drives me nuts that Nintendo thinks they can pull this stuff. I thought they would've learned when Wii sales died off that people didn't like looking at old technology and the Motion controls can only cover up the bad graphics for so long.

Like would it have been so hard for Nintendo to say, i don't know if they can't afford to put a new Graphics CARD in for an extra 50-100 a console, then maybe put a dual Graphics card system in for cheaper, and throw in a much better processor?

Here's the thing, ask any business man too, the momentum that the Wii had, killing 360 and PS3 for years in sales, the 360 and PS3 NEVER should have caught up. The problem is people started buying HDTVs and they go "hey the wii looks like crap lets get a 360". The sales reflect this. IF NINTENDO WASN'T SO ADAMANT ON THIS BS OF HAVING TO HAVE POOR GRAPHICS WITH MOTION CONTROLS THEY WOULD HAVE SLAUGHTERED THE PS3 AND 360 but instead they put themselves where they are now. Its pretty poor business on their parts to think that they can pull the wool over peoples eyes again by throwing out a new consoles as if most people don't have PS3's or XBOX's and see there is no improvement over those systems.

WiiU is a huge improvement in HW over Wii. WTH are you talking about?

It is a SuperWii by definition. It has the big HW leap FW and the Gamepad. Plus a better interface. And its fully BC.

It could run it in 1440p if only they JUST tried

After following the investor's meeting last night I can only say that I'm flabberghasted. I thought Nintendo would have something big down the pipeline but the response to this crisis has been nothing short of a joke.

Nintendo's new strategy hurts the following parties:

Easiest way to sum up the flaws in your argument: You are not the world and the world is not you. Investors don't give a shit about where Nintendo gets their money, they just want Nintendo to make tons of money for them. If the health care business becomes a huge success, investors will swim in champagne to celebrate, not pout that Mario is not on PS4.

1. WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA UHUHAHAHA!!!!! Nintendo on other platforms? HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

2. They stated they wanted to focus MORE on the other demographic (aka. NOT CHILDREN). I have a Wii U, I have a gamepad, they better make damm well use of it.

3. Refer to number one

4. True

That still gives me enough reasons to stick to my switch to the Big N

You keep getting banned almost every time you bring up Nintendo, and now you think it's a good idea to start a thread about it?

Tread lightly.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

wow... so much fuss just because Nintendo announced that they will invest in a different business, and work on expanding their ip licensing policies, while still maitaining their videogame business......

.....and most of it is pointless.

As long as it keep making great games, even if they eventually drop the console market (and EVERY company will do that someday in the future), they´ll be fine. And we will continue to enjoy them

If you want the software that badly, get a Nintendo console. I don't know what's so hard to understand about it. Don't have the money now? Wait. The console gets cheaper, and some of the games do as well.

The only thing about this list I can agree with is 4. Iwata did not admit fault when it came to 3rd party relations, and did not discuss any plans to get them on board.
