Have to agree. We have used the drive in our Xbox One exactly 1 time since November.  Why spend $40-$50 on something that really isnt needed any longer. 



Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

What does that have to do with 24 hour check ins? Nothing at all. The original plan was for people to use their disc games as another form of digital and access without putting in a disc after the install. Without a disc tray there's no need for check ins because there will be no disc to insert.

Maybe you don't have to check in every 24 hours, but if your console doesn't have a Disc Drive you won't be able to get any games on it, if it isn't connected to the internet.

Also you won't be able to resell your games, buy games used, rent games or lend games from your friends. If you want a game you're pretty much forced to pay the price MS sets for it on their store. So quite honestly, this sounds like their original X1 plan, just a bit worse since you literally have only one place to buy games and if that one place doesn't want to discount the games, you're out of luck.

So a X1 without a Disc Drive, seems like a pretty stupid purchase to me, especially if it's only $100 cheaper than the normal X1.


Really then it comes down to you knowing your situation. If you have a reliable internet connection you should no that before you purchase the device now shouldnt you.  You should know that you dont have a physical disk to resell, you should know that you cant rent a physical disk.  MS has also hinted at downloadable titles being less expensive in the future.

Just got done reading this thread...holy mother of drama!

I think that MS being "unhappy" with the leaks actually just adds to the validity of them.

Microsoft may be unhappy, but the reposnes i have seen on VGchartz and other sites have been very positive.

It is a pretty good leak for sure. A lot of good news.

Although E3 is probably not going to be as good now.

Discs are on their way out?  Its not even 50% physical 50% digital yet for software sales, its more around 80% physical, 20% digital and I'm being generous.  Discs are a long long way from being on their way out, a disc less sku seems way too premature.

Will take all this with grain of salt but 2014 looks to be Xboxs year with AAA games.

Price cut is welcome.......those country launches are so late. Please drop kinect MS.

Hell even Halo 2 bringing back its legendary multiplayer has more significance then what the competition is offering.....and that is both amazing and sad, depending how you look at it :P. Halo 5 beta seals the deal.

Sunset, Quantum, Horizon 2, Halo 2........you have yourself a kick ass holiday.



Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.
