To anybody wondering why they don't put Gamecube games on Wii U. It's because Gamecube had analog L+R triggers, but neither Wii nor WiiU have analog triggers. Remember how you would control Fludd in Mario Sunshine? Hold R halfway to squirt and move around, hold it down all the way to stay in place. They can't emulate racing games without some analog triggers similar to the Gamecube had

It makes sense to do DS over the others as its their best selling platform to date.

Having never owned one I am looking forward to playing some of the games on it.

It would require some work but they could probably get around it since the Wii U has one more shoulder button and it has the L3/R3 buttons that the GC didn't.  But who wants to go through all of that to make an old game compatible?  I'd snatch up a SMS HD though.  That game was already beautiful but if they can fix some of the camera issues and tweak the gamplay like they did with Zelda, I would jump on it.

To those wondering about why they didn't announce N64 or SNES, I'm pretty sure it's because this is their first time doing DS. I honestly think SNES and N64 are naturally to be expected.

And those that are still waiting on GBA games we know that can be run on the 3DS are still left in the cold.

Also it highlights how the current projects they worked on with the Wii U have been mishandled in terms of the Gamepad usage that they have to go to the DS for superior games that use the touch screen rather then create new ones.

That was unexpected.

That's awesome! But didn't they also announce way back that they'd do GBA VC on Wii U. Not to mention N64 and GC support should be there too and 3DS should get DS and GBA support (fully) as well. Also, a LOT more games need to come to VC for the platforms that are already supported on 3DS and Wii U.

That's nice and all, but I'm getting a 3DS soon and can play DS games on it. As others have said, I'd rather see some N64 and GC games for the VC. Nintendo has been very slack with the VC for the last couple of years. They supported the hell out of it for the first several years on the Wii and then releases slowed to a trickle despite there being many older titles still out there begging for release. Retro gaming is huge, and TBH the VC was one of the main draws of the Wii for me. It'd be nice if Nintendo doubled down on it and gave us more releases.

It kind of makes we wonder how profitable it was for Nintendo.  After they got past the big hitters, it makes me wonder if it just became small potatoes to them.  Like maybe they decided they had better uses of their time.

Sucks as a gamer though.
