Looking at last Q sales trend it looks like the original Nintendo 3DS that launched on 2011 is on its way to being discontinued.

The basic 3DS sold a measly 400k units between USA and EU/AU in Q3 while the newly launched 2DS was a decent success selling around 2.1M in the same territories.

Does Nintendo contemplate eliminating the original 3DS from the equation and leave just the cheap 2DS and the big 3D XL? and what about adding a new member to the family?

Nahh, The 3ds will still have its market even if it does sell low unless there is a 3dsi or some bs within that price point... The 3ds xl is still $200 and the 2ds can't play 3d games and looks funky to many people

They might lower production levels on the original 3ds, but since Nintendo considers all 3 sku's as part of the whole there would be no reason to eliminate a potential half million in sales.
