Game plays close to skyim, yet people saying it looks terrible? Seems people just want to hate on the game without merit.

No. The problem is collision detection is terrible, it doesnt feel like skyrim at all (the customisation is completely different aswell), its not visceral at all. Also, it doesnt feel like an Elder Scrolls game. Its a WoW clone, theme park type of MMO. There is no open-endness you would expect from Elder scrolls games.

That is why it gets trashed. Cause instead of doing an Elder Scrolls game, they did a poor WoW clone. They were afraid to believe that people would accept the Elder Scrolls design on an MMO. Dumb mistake. That is exactly what people wanted. Now, they are gonna try to push this out of the door and have it sell on The elder scrolls brand. I imagine it will get ugly and will go F2P really fast.

Believe me, i was excited for this game. Thats why i am so direly disappointed. You can check all of this on the Neogaf thread.

Ah, a beta player.

Is it possible they can fix some of those issues before and after release? Or are they pretty fundamental to the game?

No - They can't fix it.These are design choices and they designed the game around it.
This game will of course release unfinished like most MMORPGs which is acceptable to some degree but it is far off from a needed quality standard at the moment.
It played in the beta like they don't know what they want to do with the game.
On one side they try to have a Elder Scrolls feeling but on the other side a really really bad version of WoW shines through and this hurts it.
They didn't want to go their own way and instead tried to play it safe with creating a bad WoW clone and screwed even that up.
Every new MMORPG has a chance for 1 month to impress the big part of the people who are going to buy it > They will probably fail harder than Star Wars The old republic did back then.
They were afraid to go their own way and will pay the price with going F2P pretty soon which will drop the quality more over time.

You either copy WoW good/perfectly and add some new things and your own style to it > Wildstar(for example as far as i can tell from the Beta) or you go really your own way which would have been the best for Elder Scrolls Online.
This MixUp thing doesn't work - You have to bring a clear message and a certain degree of quality standard.
Big part of the 1st month community(at least on PC) will be (active and inactive)WoW players searching for something new and they get a bad copy of the game they either played or didn't like and at the same time they don't get a real Elder Scrolls...

Oh and the Elder Scrolls name will hurt it probably more than helping it too in the current state.
People without clue(didn't play beta or read in general not much about it) expect a Elder Scrolls/Skyrim with Online Multiplayer - They don't get that. They get something completely different than they expect.
It will sell a lot of units and have a lot of players in the first month cause of the name but people won't like it and obviously wont extend their Subscription.
This game will damage the brand unneeded and hopefully didn't take time and money away from a real ES Game.

Or maybe living across one. These issues are fundamental to the game, but can definitly be fixed. Not in 2 months though. The visceral part i suppose requires tweaks to the engine, the quest structure requires a complete reshufling of the quest structure in place. Neither one i think could be done in 2 months.

The best news for this game right now is if they announced a delay to fix the issues.

Great news. Eases the pain that us console guys have to wait almost 2 months to get the game a tad bit.

I have played a bit of the Beta on PC and I have to say I walked away unimpressed as did my wife who was an EQ/EQ2 nerd and we both love TES series.

I think MMOs in general have lost their charm and ESO just doesn't do anything to recapture that. The combat alone was weak and it is regular MMO fare disguised as TES style combat.

If SW TOR can't survive on subscription I just don't see ESO doing it either.

Even if it didn't still not going to play it till it goes free to play.

And chances are ms will be dropping the need for MMOs to need gold due to Sony. So thanks sony

MS has already dropped the GOLD requirement for their Free to play Happy wars.  Once you open the gate you can never close it so I expect this policy to change before Elder Scrolls Online is released.

But doesn't everyone on PS4 have PS+ anyways? Besides, if you're spending $60 on a subscription based game then I'm assuming you have no problem paying for PS+ or Xbox Live.

There was a time not long ago when you didn't need PS+ for any online game. Now it's an achievement if there is a game you don't need it for on Playstation.

Just shows how both fuck their customers if it comes to online. One just realized it a little bit later what a cash cow it is and instead of asking 100% of all online gamers on their system to pay for the whole service to play online they ask only 95%.

Little bit later? Try 11 years later.

No cross-play? That's ridiculous for an MMO.

Smart move by Sony to drop PS+ requirements. Players are already going to be paying a monthly charge to access the servers.

They haven't 'dropped the PS+ requirement'. You make it sound as if it's a reaction to MS. This was always on the cards.

The PS5 Exists.

Can you play with pc players and playstation players on the same servers like FF XIV?
