Forums - Sales Discussion - Final Fantasy XIII series sold over 10 million games, do they deserve it?

Deserve's got nothing to do with it.

But no.

Around the Network

I never hated the FFXIII series but I was extremely disappointed with the ending of FFXIII-2 and now LR feels forced. I don't think I'm the only one that feels this, the decrease in sales is probably a telling sign that this series is over for good.

Hopefully, the ending is not half-arzed and is actually a good one that deserves praise.

Your answer says it all.

Just tell me your favorite PS3 rpg if you don't mind or the one that should sell more than thsi one? That's what I was asking you about...I guess you like jerking me around.

The Fury said:No, we can't name an old FF game with Airship from the start but that's not what we want. Airship is about the exploration of the world you are playing in. In 1-12 you could take an airship, whether via minimap (X and XII) or graphical representation and fly around the world map. It allows you to find new locations or go places you've been before and find hidden secrets. It's not a matter of when you get it but getting it at all. We don't want to find 'Island Closest to Hell' in FF8 as soon as the game starts, that's silly. But I'd like to revisit many locations I've been before, to refight enemies, explore hidden story aspects or play minigames near the end of the game before completing it. In FFXIII I was unable to do this, no world map, I could go back to Pulse this allowed me some freedom to roam but only Pulse, it was very limited.

I never said I found it hard, I found it frustrating. I didn't die because it was hard, I died because it was only my main character that perished, majority of times in normal enemy fights (not bosses) before I could respond. I learnt how to manipulate paradigms over time and TP was handy but isn't the same as MP at all, characters seemed to learn what magic to use buy auto-attacking and them realising fire doesn't work again Bomb (another example there, a bomb instakilling my main character so game over).

There are a lot of things the game did well, mainly graphically and I understand your points but compared to other Final Fantasy games it was in my view the poorest I've played.

Ok I think I get what you're saying in that their is more exploration in other FF or it seems so for yourself. I guess it all depends what you prefer. I remember in FF6 the end game to me felt like leveling skills Gua etc. or leveling characters higher/espers, messing around at the colesseum or killing the dragons. 8 I think in all. FF1 didn't really have any secrets that I remember, just get weps+skillz, lvl magic casting #'s and go for Chaos. FF4 had the adamantium to make a cool wep, and hidden passages. There usually isn't a ton of stuff worth exploring in past FF games from what I can remember mainly off hand, just wanking about post game. From what I've read on wikis though some FF remakes have added certain weapons and things to teh originals, so there is more end game content that way PSP/DS versions. I found FFXIII  getting the chocobo to access sum areas that r off limits, crafting of Ultimate weapons for every character to your personal play style fun, and the Waystone quests for certain items fun, and maxing out crystarium was rather easy alot more so than 99ing your characters in past games...which I don't really find a point in that myself seems like a great way to waste time and avoid strategy + I rather have a challenge when facing the final boss. I think FFXIII is par for the course and better than some older FF when it comes to end game content, but I can knock it on how you travel with waystones had me confused and lost for a bit a couple times, and a lot of the waystones give you so so ish items or items you can attain easier only a handful I found were worth it. I'd definetly say FF6 and FFXIII have had the best post game extras from the FF's I've played. FF6 is good company too imho. I can't even remember doing a damn thing in FFVII post game, roam dat map in dat airship weeeeeeee. egh! Seems like VIII and IX are very light on post game outside of leveling up characters, but I never finished either so I'm not 100 percent on those 2. X I won't know until I play the remaster.

So yeah I don't think that's a valid knock to FFXIII because the post game/end game content is up there with the best imho. It definately has items/quests/lvling to do and it's more fun than 6 because the battle system is running at a faster pace that keeps my attention better than spamming Ultima or equping and killing Kefka in 1 turn with 2 best weapons you can equip then equip a character with a Genji Glove and the Offering.. That's some broken end boss shenanigans, and sooooo anti climatic as a youngin...just no strategy end fight boredom...destroys post game imho. And it RUINED the whole elegant story!? Why because Kefka was supposed to be this ultimate badass that destroye dthe world...but no u can finish him in 1 freaking turn. That game sucked completely in that regard. Bricked their story plot big time.

Tell me what FF had the best end game material? let's get the facts out there. Cuz if I missed something I want to be shown there is a better post game than the one found in FFXIII and what that entails.

Answer: Yes

Nope.

Game deserves to sell what exactly what it sells. Never got this 'deserving' attitude? One mans trash is another mans treasure.

On 1 hand you have Wii Sports on another hand you have FFXIII. Now which takes more brains to play and be enjoyed? Average gamer says why can't I just swing it and win? Well you have to choose actions very carefully and pay attention to the storyline, turn up your bell tones. Exactly. Haters ensue and swarm on it like overweight people at a buffet. They even so mad they make threads about it being to successful. Why? I think some people are never satisfied with anything you give them unless its the same old same old and easy beyond compare. Most people can't handle more than that without blowing an aorta.

Is this really an achievement? Selling 10 mil copies over 2 games across multiple platforms, with a total of what 8 - 10 years of development?

Like I've said before. The numbers speak for themselves. FF13-2 sold a lot less copies than its predecessor for obvious reasons. 10 mil copies is good, yet hardly an achievement for this series of games.

In FFXIII's defense it had a lower budget than FFVI,VII, VIII, and IX if you factor in inflation.

First, on the Kefka bit you just mentioned, the end game boss of FF games are never as hard as optional bosses. So level up too much they become easy. But it's not just end game, it's exploration during the game, there are things to collect minigames, towns to explore. When you go back to the world map in many FF games you can do so much more than just hunting missions like on Pulse. There are new towns to visit, hidden story aspects, extra superbosses. All missable if you just play the game. I'm in no doubt FFXIII didn't have these but with the limited access to the 'world', it just doesn't feel as open as previous games.

Not quite sure why you think FFVII hasn't got extra things to do, 3 Weapons to fight, chcobo breeding, minigames, 3 instances of hidden extra backstory only accessible if you visit certain places on disc 3 as examples.

Where was the mini game in FFXIII? I can tell you now that a lot of people on this website put hours into playing card games or Blitzball. In FFXIII there was no mini game at all, that or I couldn't find it.

Hmm, pie.
