Forums - Gaming Discussion - Tomb Raider On PS4: "Same Game, Frame-rate Stutters, Lara Still Plastic Looking" Says Early Buyer

All the reviews are giving the edge to the new version with PS4 on top.

BTW Kotaku about Xbone framerate "On Xbox One, the game hangs at bit above 30fps and gets smoother if you pull in close to Lara in an enclosed space where it doesn't have to render lots of objects or long-distance detail."

Is there any actual new SP content? Otherwise meh, looks like the "definitive" console version is just what PC people played months ago

From all the posts it seems like not much new content... but it isn't what people have been playing on PC, it got some news effects... But if the person would play on PS3/X360 and not PC before (meaning they don't care that much about the graphics) then I see no purpouse in wanting to play on PS4/Xbone if they had played in one of the previous platforms.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

So much for the "PS4 is more like 45-50 x1 40-45", it really is right around 60 fps for ps4, 30 for x1.

I wish some users would understand that when someone says 60fps is the aim, and its not locked that it will often drop to below 50. This is why he notices stutter. So like I originally said. I fully expect the average of PS4 frame on DF to be 45 - 50 and Xbox One 35-40.

Both not locked, but both confirmed above 30 all the time and below 60 all the time.

GT6 sufferes stutter, and averages 45-50 on DF.

I would actually of preferred they lock the games at 30 fps. Hopefully the One version you dont notice the stutter as much because it never hits 60.

LMAo only you would try to spin this to downplay the gap. The ps4 is at 60 FPS 95% of the time, this from the game rpoducer himself, no way is it an 45 average then it would not be 60 would it. You can expect waht you want, it won;t be reality.  The one will be close to 30, ps4 60, thats just fact, both will fluctuate a bit then go back to norms.

Call it what you want. I dont relish the reports coming in of frame rate stutter. I wouldd have preferred My Xbox One version lockedd at 30 if its in the Xbox version to. Wait for Digital Foundry before calling facts. People promised  GT6 was 60fps, but that dips often well below 50.

Here another neogaf preview confirming the "mostly" 60fps with some occasionnal dips in demanding scenes:

"The graphics are simply gorgeous and the framerate seems to mostly 60fps. Some scenes take a hit, but it's not enough to detract from my experience. Edges seem to be very crisp and clean with some form of AA, the texture detail is superb, and the new particle effects are instantly recognizable."

What more do you need? Do you even know that 99.999% of current (open 3D world) games do stutter? Zero stuttering in this kind of demanding game is impossible even on a PC with a Titan. Even COD Ghosts on a Titan does stutter, did you know that?

Please enough with this nonsense.

TRDE is a 60fps game on PS4 and a 30fps game on X1, accept it. Stop looking for unfair negatives on the PS4 version or are you a Polygon reviewer?

Niether version is locked. Niether version maintains a framerate constant. You cant say that either game is x or y. Its only digital foundry which will tell us exactly whats going on. Chill out. No matter how many times you tell me, that doesnt shift the fact that the framerates arent locked. To many vRying opinions Round the web on the performance. As I said I eas in my opinion is digital foundry will show a considerable amount of fluctuation on both platforms. I maintain if it effects gameplay then id want locked 30fps.

You were wrong, for the most part ps4 stays at 60, x1 30.

Tomb Raider On PS4: "Same Game, Frame-rate Stutters, Lara Still Plastic Looking" Says Early Buyer

Few lucky Playstation 4 owners have already got their hands on copy of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, all thanks to GameStop and other retailers who broke the street date, and as a result of this early impression were bound to arrive on internet, and its not a good news for Crystal Dynamics.

Reddit user ChicagoBulls1984 got Playstation 4 version Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition early, and according to him its not that much better that PS3 port, its more or less the same game, framerate still stutters, textures upgrades are not that major enhancements and many more things.

"If you have already played it on ‘last gen’ consoles I would advise you NOT to get this version (at it’s current price). With all the back and forth about the technical benchmarks of this new definitive version, I can honestly say it does not look THAT much better than the PS3 version. This is not to say the new version looks bad, but it’s a testament to how good the game (and many other ‘last’ gen games) already looked. I know that on paper this version has a higher resolution and better framerate, but while playing it doesn’t add that much to the game." said ChicagoBulls1984.

He also added that Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is not worth the $60 price tag it carries, and Killzone: Shadow Fall impressed him more than this enhanced edition to Tomb Raider.

"These differences are not worth 60 dollars, plain and simple."

"I have played a game like Killzone Shadowfall that was made specifically for the PS4 and looks like a much more substantial leap over last gen than this game does. Of course it is an exclusive title. For all the hype Crystal Dynamics spewed about this version and all of its graphical enhancements I can honestly say it is only slightly better. It is more or less the exact same game. Lara is still ‘plastic’ looking. The framerate stutters here and there. The textures have been enhanced but it isn’t anything major. Her hair looks better because of the tressFX system."

So in short, ChicagoBulls1984 states that if you have played Tomb Raider (2013) on PS3/Xbox 360/PC, buying Definitive Edition won't be a smart choice as it doesn't justify $60 price tag with the content it offers.

Choice is your guys. Let us know in the comment section below would you still buy Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.

What did ChicagoBulls1984 expect if not the same game with slightly enhanced visuals and framerate???? Stupidity is rife on the internet! Thanks for stating the bleeding obvious. Owners of the original won't find much difference and it defo ain't worth $60

Hell, no. If Sony games have variable framerate, it is of course smooth. You haven't learned anything from the GT6-thread... *sigh*

This thread was gold.

It looks like good and sound advice, I think is the smart choice.

Yup.

I think so too, if you already have beaten the game then buying it again at full price is a little frivilous.
