I fail, I guess. I would just spam the ecosystem with plants and animals, hoping that they would find a nice equilibrium, but I usually ended up with 50% of plants going extinct and only a few animals wandering around, barely clinging to existence.

Don't take a stable ecosystem for granted. They're way harder to make than you think.
