Forums - Website Topics - Mod abuse on this site

I feel as though the administrator(s) should do something to curve the overzealous mods on this site. I've read the rules and they are so incredibly losely defined it gives the mods the power to ban anyone for any slightest hint of negativity.

This is what I got a 5 day ban for:

"Why do people still clamor to MK8 and Smash? It's so naive, those titles will not miraculously resurrect this dead console. It's done. Moderated, -Mr Khan..."

That first part can be broken down into an implied (and legitimate) prediction followed by an opinion rooted in fact. I don't think those titles will save the Wii U, that's a prediction, not flamebaiting. I think people who think so are naive, that's a personal opinion that isn't meant to be offensive. I base this on the fact that Mario 3D and other titles didnt' save the Wii U (like W101) even though people said they would.

The last part is also a matter of an opinion and an implied prediction. What's so offensive about the word "dead"? It's the opposite of vibrant and alive. Even Nintendo admits the Wii U is dead: http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/175052-the-wii-u-is-dead-in-its-current-form-admits-nintendo-but-what-now

After I got banned someone wrote on my wall: "Kinda strange that you got banned for that seeing as how the WII U is a dying console for the most part ..."

Strange indeed, especially what Mr Khan wrote: "You are receiving this message for violation of forum rules regarding Trolling (It was once advised for you to stay out of Nintendo centered threads, and it would be good to heed that warning going forward.)"

Wait what? I can never post anything in a Nintendo thread? What kind of forum policy is this? I don't mask my dislike for Nintendo but that's shared by many users here. It has to do with many things but perhaps most importantly is the fact that Nintendo was the top dog previous gen with the Wii. Sony aroused the same sentiments when they launched the PS3 after dominating with PS2.

I can understand the need to keep this site free of personal attacks but what I wrote was not an attack on any person, it was a comment regarding a console. The mods have to be more tolerant.

Please narrow down your code of conduct policy. The mods are blatantly abusing their powers on this site.

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

Sorry, but i dont agree at all.

At least with me they have been understanding and fair.

Its important to have strict modding cause theres still alot of posters that try to ignore it and deliver profanities and vulgarities to other posters instead of having civil discussions.
Even with all of this, theres still alot of trolling going on in Nintendo threads and the Wii U, aswell as Vita and Xbox. Those are the usual targets and its best that it gets toned down. That kind of thing leads people to leave the website.

Cant control your bad manners? Then its best you leave than everyone else. Thats my view on it.

edit: Changed a word cause it was beeing misinterpreted.

You most definitely deserved that five day ban.

By the way, there is a thread dedicated to moderator feedback on top of the "Hot topics" page. You might wanna post this over there instead.

Then what are forums for?

Freedom of speech. If you aren't being abusive to others then you should be allowed to voice your opinion. If others don't like then they can debate in a civil manner why they are wrong. IF you can't follow those simple rules then yes you should be banned.

That's not reasonable. You have an anonymous site dedicated to the comparison of sales data between consoles. That means there is inherent competition and conflict between users of various attachments. A similar comparison is an internet site dedicated to NFL discussion between different teams. There's bound to be negativity and rivalry.

The whole "if you have nothing nice to say don't say it all" kindergarden mentality is so naive to apply to the internet.

Mods can abuse their powers but Mr Kahn is usually one of the goods ones. If your claim to be innocent as you are is true then you have been treated unfairly.

While the prediction is legitimate, the wording and formulation aren't - I also believe that Smash and MK8 by themselves won't have much of an impact. Strict moderation is what makes these forums better than other troll-ridden hellholes.

I'm confused. Thats what i said.

Well, calling people who have one position 'naive' is a little rude. It wasn't a very interesting post, for another. For another thing, it seemed to call into question the validity of a huge swathe of what people like to debate on here. Basically saying "I think 20% of the forum activity should cease," in sort of personal and disparaging tones, is kind of silly.

That said, I've quested why JohnLucas writes such long posts, and since his gigantic posts alone are probably 20% of the forum activity, I'm basically guilty of the same thing, in a different way. Bah-dum-chock.
