I've been a lurker for many months, and finally decided joining on New Year. That Said, I always wondered how VGChartz begun and grew.

So, if you had to explain the history of VGChartz to someone, how would you do it? You can sum it up or make it extremelly detailed, as you desire to.

If you do not know the full history/are relatively new/don't remember much at least try to mention something you remember like, for example: "I remember when Mass Effect 3 came out, oh boy, everyone raged about the ending for almost six months!".

Oh, and try to make it fun!

Started using this site in 2007 was lurking for 2 years then made an account in 2009 but never used it because I forgot my PW and couldn't be bothered recovering it at the time. Then I made this account in 2010 and didn't really start using it hard out until 2011. I ended up remembering my PW for my old account last year but got it permabanned in a ban dodging situation.

I remember reading the Unity thread, and when Wii U was doing around 20k every week when I was a lurker. When did you start lurking?

Vgchartz was a website for sale only then it become about gaming in general you had news and review of games but problem now chartz always come too late.

I remember quite a bit from when I first joined and the few months before hand when I was lurking.

However, I have no clue where to start.

I just remember ioi being very interactive with the community, PS3 was going to die, Xbox was just doing better than PS3 but worse at time aligned launches. The Wii was going to sell 200 million plus and everyone just took the mic out each other but people had thicker skin back then. You could argue in one thread and agree in another. People were just grateful to get sales data,

The charts you could create on this site were amazing. You could compare consoles sales from launch in each region dating back to the saturn. Only in Japan for most consoles but it gives you a good perspective on sales trends. You could also comment on weekly sales below the weekly sales data (the one where it list the top selling games for each week).

The sales charts for each week also showed more numbers than now.







Does anyone miss the list of top publishers for each week? I remember at one time Nintendo was no1 for like a year straight. Well it felt like it. Sony were always amongst the top aswell. Sega didnt do too bad for itself. EA and Activision alternated each week.
