Forums - Gaming Discussion - Tomb Raider Definitive Edition runs at 60 FPS on PS4 (Xbone - 30FPS)

So, if I want the hd version of an old game, then I should get the ps4 version.

That sounds pretty important to me.

It is near the end of the end....

lol we're barely 2 months in and the difference is this visible already!

Same game, same graphics, a (rumored, not confirmed) minor difference in framerate (again, Eat says it goes up to 45 on XBO amd into the 50's on PS4).

Yep, a whole 1% of people will notice this huge difference...the average person at Wal Mart will think these games are IDENTICAL.

You mean a confirmed 100% gap in framerate.

The Toyota Camry is the sales leader in it's group even though it's one fo the worst cars in it's class. The Accord or Mazda 6 being better still matters.

Not 100%. (PS4 dips below 60, XBOX runs up to 45) and NOT confirmed until digital foundry runs their framerate machine on it imo. What if it "turns out" PS4 averages 52 and XBO averages 42? Or hell they could both end up capped at a rock solid 30 for all we know.

Even if it is I'll say again I dont care, the fact it's 1080P on XBO is the key for me. I'm not a person who notices framerate much.

It's fodder for fanboy wars mainly.

what frame rate did Tomb raider run at on the Xbox360 btw?

Analysis videos I've seen seem to average 30 fps and it dips around the 20s.

so being upgraded from the 720p of the 360 to the 1080p but maintaining the same fps on the X1 allows them to title it "the definitive edition"? I can see a lot of Ps4 versions of multiplatform games taking that subtitle for themselves if this is the case.

Based on the source of this fps thing tho, I'll wait to see digital foundries breakdown before I'd believe it to be 100% true, no point a game being labeled at 60fps if it comes at the cost of torn frames or random drops at points, would actually rather a stable 30 than a stuttering 60 if I'm honest. Every other resolution "scandel" has been based on Digital foundry info and so should this tbh not someone on twitch saying it feels like 60fps.

I had a feeling that was going to be your response. You just needed someone to set it up, right? Obviously the "definitive" title is just an attention grabber, as is GOTY or Ultimate.

I'm curious to see what's the FPS situation on the X1 version. Seems like the people in that video were avoiding discussion about it.

Both versions are 1080P...so both are identicaly HD...

If you want the ALLEGEDLY higher frame rate version, SUPPOSEDLY it's PS4...

It also got a lot of graphics upgrades. They released a comparison video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NUX2rG_u8w

Most of them are somewhat minor, but probably overall they help. Still, it's definitely a cross-gen game, rooted in last gen with a new coat of paint.

In my mind all they really did was port the PC version to next gen consoles;. The higher quality assets were already done for PC. Little extra work was required.

http://youtu.be/7NUX2rG_u8w?t=1m27s dat hair. But yeah ofc all those Tres effects were there from day one with the PC game , being honest tho for a ps3 game Tomb Raider already looks beautiful so it's really just a few touch ups the game is lovely no matter what version of it you're looking at.

well I normally look at the subtitle - "game of the year edition" to mean the version which comes with all the dlc pre installed on the disk so that has meaning. Notice how no one is asking for a PC version of "the definitive version" lol.

Also, I will say Neogaf is running their usual spin if you look at it carefully. Eatchildren says the XBO version runs at unlocked 30, which gets up to 45 in some areas, even though he implies not often, I expect he is trying to spin it negatively for xbox, so it's probably often. Then he says PS4 is 60 but with a few dips into 50's.

So the reality is not 60 vs 30, it's an average of, lets say 37.5 (split the difference of 30 and 45 for XBO) vs say, 55 on PS4. Notice how Eatchildren tried to highlight the best case for PS4 (60) and the worst case for Xbox (30)

That only makes sense if its 60 FPS half the time and 45 half the time on PS4 and 30 FPS and 45 FPS half the time on X1.  My guess, and whats way more likely, is its gonna be 60 FPS MOST the time on PS4 and ocasionally 45 FPS, if that's even true.  Its funny you say that people try to say the best case for PS4 and worst case for X1, please stop playing the victum card already, FPS is usually 30 or 60 that's why people rounded them to those numbers.

Why are PS4 fans crowing so much? PS4 is supposed to be 66% more powerful (at least, according to some it's much much more than that because X1 reserves huge amounts for Kinect while PS4 in their minds reserves nothing)

And you end up with one game 1080P on both, 60 on one 30 on the other, with largely the same graphics presumably on both? Wouldn't this be expected? In fact shouldn't the gap be much larger in favor of PS4? After all XBO reserves 3Gb of RAM, two CPU's, and 20% of the GPU (which is already 66% less powerful) for OS and PS4 reserves nothing for OS, right?

What is holding PS4 back then? Where is the 200+% differences we were promised?

Personally for an action game, I dont care about 60 FPS, I'd rather the XBO version run 1080/30 than say, 900/60,

Also, I will say Neogaf is running their usual spin if you look at it carefully. Eatchildren says the XBO version runs at unlocked 30, which gets up to 45 in some areas, even though he implies not often, I expect he is trying to spin it negatively for xbox, so it's probably often. Anyways people said KZ Shadow Fall multiplayer was 60, but real frame testing showed it dips into the 30's at time and probably averages more like 45. So I take this with a grain of salt until we get some testing.

But I'm just glad the game is 1080P on XBO. That's priority one for me.

Uhm, the PS4 reserves 3.5GB of RAM for the OS, and they PR-defended this by stating there is 1GB of flexible RAM (until I see that in action or a developer claims to utilize it, the OS consumes 3.5GB of RAM).  The PS4 ALSO reserves two cores for the OS.

The primary difference between the PS4 and the XBox1 is the GPU and RAM specs.

Honestly, this only benefits us the gamers. The bigger the PS4 install base, the more developers will want to take advantage of the PS4's extra horse power. That's another big reason why I'm buying Tomb raider : Definitive Edition. It's kinda my thank you to the developers. I want to encourage more devs to take this route.
