What exactly did the government do?

Refused to sign association agreement with EU.

See you agree with me... but previously it seemed like you disagreed with me.  So I'm rather confused.

Unless it was about the protest law, but...

You know, protests in Ukraine started November 2013. And the anti-protest laws was in place only end of January 2014. So the riots started much earlier then this laws. And the people who want to join EU are doing this to the police in the capital of their own country:

I think you should just welcome them.

And after those laws, the protesting got worse...

nor do I think anywhere did I suggest any support for one side or the other.

I wasn't disagreeing  with you, I was mocking  you. My line you've quoted is blatantly straightforward and there's nothing to disagree with, while yours...

//You need to start reading this blog to get the joke: http://vesti-kpss.livejournal.com/ Word of warning: it may seem like the same content you may find on BBC or Haaretz, but none of the people commenting there are serious.

Don't speak any of my old world languages, and if i learned one i'd probably go with Armenian.

Areas with most #euromaidan twits. I'f i didn't know where Ukraine is, I'd thought that the riots are in Washington/London.

I'm hoping america becomes like this, time to wake up

I mean... you do realize the reason they're protesting is because they're government is taking a hardline stance AWAY from Americanism right?   By forgoing the EU and cultivating closer deals with russia while passing tighter protest laws and arresting influential western leaning figures.

Well said. While America certainly has its own government related problems the Ukrainian government is taking direct stances against personal and economic freedom that stands directly against the demands of the new generations of Ukranians who are the futherest from the soviet style government.

The Ukraine ranks 155th in terms of economic freedom even behind Balarus.

Well, they certainly do started well before those laws, but that really not the reason why I mocked him. The quote I laughed at is just an expresssion of collective unconscious he lives in and archetypes he understands (he simply doesn't know and more importantly unwilling to know anything beyond that). So in his own weird way he could even be right, but when translated into Russian the phrase sounds smth like Scharansky might have said, and it is funny, because it is ridiculous -- we don't even see things in this perspective -- so hail to us, because we have our own perspective on everything in this world (that's luxury! especially now) :D

The problem that Ukranian State is a bankrupt. So they NEED financial support - from EU or from Russia.

Map of protests (have no idea how accurate it is).

Red -- local administration has been captured
Light red --  captured administration building has been freed
Light blue -- unsuccessful attempts to capture administration
Blue -- small protest groups

Not surprisingly South-East gave protesters a middle-finger.

The most pessimistic people suggesting the following outcome:

I wonder if this one would be even possible without our military intervention?

Either way I'm feeling we're approaching endgame scenario for Ukraine in it's present shape and form as a post-Soviet republic and a typical failed state.
