This game looks amazing, but I'm concerned about the length of the game because it has 6 worlds, while donkey kong country returns had 8 (9 if you played the 3ds version). I'm still probably gonna get it but hopefully they have some extra worlds they're hiding or something.

There are now 3 secret levels per world instead of one.

Cool, I didn't know that. Do you know how they are going to be unlocked? Returns had 2 secret levels per world, one unlocked by buying the key at cranky's shop and the other unlocked by collecting all the kong letters.

I just remember it being announced in one of those article listing details from a preview maybe a month or so ago.

Is Donkey Kong really such a big deal for Nintendo? I mean yes I like the Donkey Kong games but going by the hype in this forum it seems to be almost savior like as a franchise. I always regarded Donkey Kong more like an add-on franchise to Mario but never really something big on its own. I guess I'll see when it comes out how big it really is.

4/5 mainline console DK games in the last 20 years have sold over 5m. Whether or not its a system seller in and of itself im not sure but it certainly helps build up the library.

Casuals arent coming back and mainstream gamers are sticking to Playstation/Xbox so that basically leaves Nintendo fans and niche hardcore gamers. Right now traditional Nintendo fans have 2D/3D Mario as big hitters and Pikmin/Wind Waker as support titles. Donkey Kong is considered a big hitter so it should help get some of the Nintendo core on board.

I expect it to boost sales for a few weeks and hopefully Mario Kart releases shortly afterwards to continue the momentum.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I never pictured DK to be a system seller after SNES but excited to see the results of its release.

I do think that the game will show some boost in Wii U sales, but I expect nothing major until Mario Kart 8 for boosts in Wii U sales.

Hm, what tosh aimed at Nintendo fans rather than reality.
When you have INDY games such as Trine, Braid, etc out there, this is still very basic, out dated gameplay. Also most people have never played the original Donkey Kongs now as they are so old, so going for the nostalgia market will be a certain fail.
So prediction; it will sell just like Zelda did. Mass load at start as a lot of folks with a Wii U will buy it, then nothing as it won't attract anyone to buy a Wii U.

Er, if I recall, Wii U sales went up when Wind Waker HD was released.

To merely poor levels, rather thn terrible ones. These non original IPs are not enough.

this won't move much hardware to call it a stellar start. After all its just a few monkey collecting bananas and instead of throwing shit they throwing barrels.

Just as striking as the art is the superb David Wise soundtrack. While I heard familiar Donkey Kong Country melodies weaving in and out of the score, every theme is new and originally composed for Tropical Freeze. Several of the pieces are enchanting enough to earn a place in my iPod rotation. The music ranges from Lion King-inspired choral songs over the savannah to Teutonic horns integrated into the Germanic Autumn Heights area.

Now this bit gets me hot.

David Wise's scores for the first two Donkey Kong Country games remain among the greatest in video game history even twenty years later.

It's not going to move Wii U's itself, but it will start off the year right. I'm hoping that after February, we have at least one big release per month. If they can maintain that until a holiday price cut to 250, I think they will be golden.

I'm actually quite excited for the game. Gamespot has a video with all David Wise music on a very neat looking level. It's god tier: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/feeling-the-love-in-donkey-kong-country-tropical-freeze/1100-6417204/

I can agree with that. Surely games like The Wonderful 101 will make a difference.
