Forums - Sales Discussion - When Will Wii U outsell the Dreamcast

When will the Wii U pass the Dreamcast sales.

Fiscal year 3 64 71.91%

Fiscal year 4 8 8.99%

Fiscal year 5 2 2.25%

Never 15 16.85%

Total:89

The Dreamcast, Sega's last home console before becoming a third party developer & publiher is seen by many as a total flop sales wise.  The System launched strong but fadded quickly as Sony took the reins of gen 6 with it's dominating PS2.  The PS2 went on to be the highest selling home console ever with 157.7 million sold, while the Dreamcast fell on it's face & only managed 8.2 million life time sales, less than the failed Saturn, according to VGchartz.

The Wii U is projected to reach just over 6 million units sold after it's 2nd fiscal year on the market, so my question is, when will the Wii U pass the forgotten 6th gen warrior known as the Dreamcast?

I think it could reach that by November of this year, if not possibly by early next year. Really depends on how Nintendo markets the system and which games end up on the system

This October is my guess.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

So you are expecting a big Mario Kart & Smash bump?  I voted fiscal year 3 aswell, but I think it will be late Decender.

A brave warrior, that stood the test of time and will always remain in our hearts...

Sometime during the holidays of this year is my guess.

If Nintendo wants to remain relevant in consoles, it will be July or August. That would require significant steps being made. $50-100 price cut along with along side a significant marketing campaign outlining what the WiiU is to the American and European countries.

It is near the end of the end....

December.

I may be one to have little faith in the Wii-U, but the Dreamcast sales were abysmal. Even the Wii-U should have little passing that in it's third year.

Someday this year I hope...
