Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Iwata Doomed?

let's face it, the Gamecube, though made a nice profit, wasn't all that successful. The Wii was successful for three years and it completly petered off. Nintendo didn't maximize profits on the Wii. The DS was really great but since there were so many versions of it, the system confused people. People don't know that the 3DS is a new handheld. 3DS got off to a bad start and is finally selling a decent amount. The Wii U was a huge failure no matter which way you slice it. I hope Nintendo can profit overall on the Wii U but it still seems like it's losing A LOT of money for Nintendo to be losing money overal for the year. Shareholdas are waving their pitchforks at Iwata because he can't post profits anymore. I think he needs to retire and hand his job over to someone who is more hip with the industry. Who agrees?

Welcome back. And you're criticizing the Wii/DS era too much. The Gamecube was made before Iwata I think. And the 3DS is amazing. But Iwata need to go/change a lot of his plans.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

He needs to stop taking control of NoA... He clearly doesn't understand the NA market... Its cause of him that Nintendo was a no show at e3 (I believe)... He can stay as the CEO (although I don't really prefer that at this point) but he needs to go back to Japan and stay there and let Reggie or someone else that understands the NoA market to lead NoA

shareholders in Japanese businesses have next to no power. It's not so much waving pitchforks as it is impotently shaking their fists; annoying, but ultimately meaningless. They can't do anything to Iwata

Iwata direcatally has to go

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

Why do you ask a question that has an obvious answer? It's like asking for sense in your threads.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Iwata and Nintendo are both still searching for Blue Markets, while ignoring the Red Market now for 10+ years

Fact is the Blue Market they created moved on from Wii / DS to the iOS / Android devices

The Red Market that still continues to have the most spend in gaming, are being well served by Sony and MS. Nintendo shouldn't expect the "core" to treat the Wii U as anything other than a potential 2nd/3rd console when that "core" is well aware that Nintendo will be missing all the key 3rd party games of the year.

Bottom line, the "core" is much more interested in being able to play GTA V, Tomb Raider, Bioshock, etc over a meager few quality titles from Nintendo (Super Mario 3D World, etc).

They're fine, the Wii U is a flop, the 3DS is a big hit. They lost their momentum early on with the Wii, so the interest wasn't there for a Wii U, putting an underpowered, over priced game console with a semi-confusing name isn't a great strategy. Having owned one for a year, I also have to say the system simply wasn't properly thought out.

Wii and DS weren't Iwata's decisions. They were the ideas of that guy who died recently. With him, all "innovations" in Nintendo consoles has died. WiiU was an attempt at mimicking the DS.

3DS was a bad name for a new console, I can see it selling less people people aren't aware that it's a new console

Heck, Iwata said he would step down if WiiU didn't sell 5 million units by the end of their fiscal year last year (March 31st 2013). He didn't......but he should.
