Super Mario 3D World is an amazing game, but the market kick into Nintendo's stubborn nuts is still very well deserved given how disconnected Nintendo has been from servicing the "core" gamer demographic while it tries to attract back all those "casual" gamers that moved to iOS / Android many years back.

Plan A: Attack 3D World based on its quality.
Yeah, I personally put a stop to that.

Plan B: Attack 3D World based on its sales.
A viable strategy, provided that you're not writing it off as a "flop". Oh wait... you did.

Plan C: Attack 3D World based on Wii U sales.
This seems more critical of Wii U than 3D World itself.

You're right. Nintendo shouldn't try new things, especially when a new console is out.

I think it`s best to wait for sales in the coming months and see what`s the attach ratio for Mario 3D World and Wii U and if Wii U will do better in weekly sales or not.
I have seen comments online on how Wii U is hard to find, though.

Galaxy 2 reuses the same assets. That's lazy, yet the game is good and even some (wrongly) believe it's better than the first one. I love to see OoT 3D upresed port on my 3DS, even when I know it's the same artstyle. And that's the key, if the artstyle is good it can be used more than one time, example Celda.

3DWorld plays like a 3D SMB3 version and looks like something between Galaxy and NSMB. Nothing bad but not as spectacular as Galaxy.

Also, 2-3 years while is still a lot of time compared to the annual releases, it's normal development time for those franchises that are a must buy. You can't expect to do a must buy for the core Nintendo fanbase in six months that it's not a port.

And finally, selling more than Pikmin and WWHD is still a good argument considering Nintendo believes both are must haves a not just filler games. And we are talking about must buys.

3D world and Pikmin didn't work, but surely SSB and Mario Kart will !

The later are bigger franchises than the former. Hence why Wii outsold combined in US at April 2008 both Xbox360/PS3 in the same month the oscar worthy GTAIV launched.

Bigger IP than super mario world ? That's a god tier classic. Same level as kart and SSB to me.

I consider 3D World in the 3D Mario franchise, separate from the 2D ones.

it would be speculation on both our parts. systems always gets boost in the holidays especially Ninty systems. People buy presents, there are all kinds of deals, bundles. We might have to agree to disagree at this point.

It's still an awesome game.
