Bioshock 1 for me. The "thinking man's FPS" that had so many possibilities, terrific atmosphere, and a engaging story with nice twists.

confession time: i've never played bioshock...

Whoa. Well if you even have a passive interest in FPS then you owe yourself to get that. You can find that game super cheap today. Forget Bioshock 2 and Infinite, number 1 is where the magic is :)

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I wasnt trying to say Halo done anything. I was saying COD certainly didnt.

Halo actually did alot more than COD.

Halo popularised only 2 weapons at a time. Breaking the norm from being able to carry 20 weapons at once in every shooter. It popularised rechargabe health, as Gears Of War, among others adopted rechargable health before COD 4. These things were popular before COD 4.

COD4 is a good modern war shooter. It popularised modern warfare in games. Thats what it did. Not the things that were already done by many before it.

Agree to disagree then. If you look at first person shooters before and after COD4, it should be pretty clear which game changed the course of FPS games, mechanically. But yeah.. we're going way off course, OP stated last gen.

Of the industry Call of Duty, particularly 4 dominated this generation. 10mil+ every year is insanity for a gaming series. While I never cared for it because it seemingly hits three things not a fan of in game 1) FPS 2) Focus on online multi-player 3) Glorification of war, it cannot be ignored that for many gamers this was THE game series that every other game emulated or lived in fear of.

COD 4 Modern Warfare, Uncharted 2 Among Thieves and Assassins Creed.

Negative or positive?

Negative : Obviously Call of Duty MW 1 cause it turned everything into casualism and had so much influence on former good studios so they turned their former good franchises into "We need to get the attention of the CoD people cause they are bigger than our fanbase which supported us since the beginning"*cough* Capcom *cough*

Positive : Uncharted 2
Showed the world there is another way and that you can actually do something that isn't all about Online Multiplayer Auto Aim Casual Shooters and Bro Dudes in this Gen.
You could tell stories and get people excited with your games with pushing the industry forward into a completely new direction.
Had the same effect on many studios as Call of Duty with influencing other studios but in a good way this time.

You can't place the blame fully on Activision just because their franchise started to sell boat-loads. The overall crappy economy that tanked during the gen was more to blame for the action-QTE craze that ruined some franchises. Every publisher just wanted to make some money off of the people that bought COD, and unfortunately, some franchises suffered.

Of those three, which one do you think had the most influence on the industry?

Mario Galaxy. It reawakened my passion for gaming, which had fallen into a coma for years.
