I know that there have probably been alot of these threads recently, but i wanted to see what you guys had to say on the matter. As for the purpose of this thread, most influential game of the past gen, mine would have to be COD4. This game was the pinnacle of Call of Duty, and helped usher in a new gen back when it released. With the release of this game, many casuals were exposed to COD, and the iteration garned alot of press and awards. It is because of this game that COD turned into the juggernaut that it is today, and it is also because of this game and HALO 3, Fps' are the kings of modern gaming (unfortunately).  I think that COD 4 was the most influential game of the previous gen because of its profound affect on games in other genres. After the release of this game, many franchises were 'actionized' to try to lure casuals that bought MW1, and many suffered. Even though this was a bad thing for the industry , it shows the sheer impact that this game had on the industry.

For better or worse, this game largely shaped the last-gen.

What was your most influential game last gen?

I say Assassin's Creed. It brought the open world craze upon us by showing us what was possible in a truly open world.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Mine is, and I'm not even joking, Wii Sports (and Zelda: TP). These two games is what turned me into a gamer again. I hadn't played console games in 10 years almost when I first tried Wii Sports in early 2007, and it just blew me away!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Mine is Red dead redemption.. Everything about the game blew my mind away.. from the gameplay, the openworld, and of course the emotional sad sad ending for John..RIP John.. You were a true Badass.

Praise the One.

True, but i think that the fps genre is more popular (though it seems to be changing) than open-world games, and that is why COD 4 was more influential IMO

I could definately see Wii sports as one of the most influential, it sold a crazy amount and was probably the single most played game of the last gen.

And it hooked Sony and MS on motion controls ^^ quite a forerunner, eh?
