creamsugar can't possibly leave us without 3DS numbers, can he?
So the Wii U sold better than Vgchartz expected, but the 3DS looks to be overtracked, which further shows that the 3DS has reach its peak already.
Also I think this got lost yesterday, so maybe we can talk about this now:
Can someone explain to me how they detemined that they have 12.5mil active Wii players in France in 2013???
Just Don't trust Nintendo France about all this... they often are very weird with what they announce. (here they probably calculate this by saying 100% Wii owners are active and 2players active per console LOL!)
About Wii U numbers in France:
2012: 240K shipped - 118K units sold (confirmed by GfK / VGC almost same numbers)
First half 2013: 41K units sold (so a little bit less than 7K units a month) (Confirmed by GfK / Nintendo France CEO announcement / VGC almost same numbers) Total of 159K LTD here
After that, announcements from Phillipe Lavoue (CO-CEO Nintendo France):
As of Nov 3th - 175K units sold so 16K units from July to Nov 3th (4K units a month)
As of Dec 31st - 300K units sold so 125K for Nov+Dec (62.5K units a month)
It is just impossible and unbelievable that both of those last announcements are true. One, if not 2 of thoses, are wrong.
Also last year they said Wii was still over x360 (in the first half of 2013) since they had the wii mini, GfK confirmed it false, X360 was selling more every month by a large margin.
Let's just wait for Financial reports (Sony,Microsoft,Nintendo) + Gfk hardware numbers in Europe/France for this !
More OnTopic: Very nice software compilation sales I saw, thanks for this! Since it doesn't count bundles, can someone tell me the bundled games in US in 2013 (on ps3/360) ? thanks² !
Prediction: End of 2015 Hardware sales (as of January 20, 2015)
Wii U: 12.1M | XBO: 19.8M | PS4: 36.0M | 3DS: 58.5M | PSV: 11.7M
So Wii U did better than we initially thought: good, if it can hold out in a longer term and possibly grow too later, 8th gen will be better overall and more interesting.
Excellent 3DS, XBOne and PS4, and they better be, as PS3 and XB360 did worse than we thought (not to mention the other old HW, really plummeting), new gen must balance last gen decrease if we want the market to stay healthy.
Sony must do something more for PSV in EU and a lot more in USA. If not immediately, at least after PS4 launch sales settle down in Japan too.
It is a shame that Sony didn't allocate more stock for the US, though. I'm sure they could have easily matched their Nov numbers (1.14M.)
no need 4 excuses
Glad to see xbox one doing well. Sad to see VITA dying...
Any interesting software numbers for fringe titles?
How come Xbone beated PS4? Shortages?
vita nowhere and the PS3 over tracked but sony must be delighted with the PS4 levelling up market share with the wiiu/x1 in the biggest market this gen,it was a must do for them
To be fair it wasn't expected to outsell it at all.
And most people here live in America. It is a home turf victory. After all, why would a American gamer truly care about sales in a continent they don't live in?
That is simply not true, or rather far from being universally true. PS4>Xb one may have been an expectation of a slight majority of people. But I think it was more the opinion of a very vocal minority. Many of us felt it would be close and could be a small victory to either console. But the main factor was that VGC had Xb one edging PS4, which means the expectations of anyone who is interested in using objective evidence to make predicitons is that Xb one was likely to be the leading nexgen console for December.
Considering that NPD probably only has a 97% confidence the true picture could still be a very slight PS4 win. That is the difference between Xb one and PS4 is not statistically significant at 97% confidence. You need 99% confidence to say the Xb one win isprobably real. But the official number gives it to Xb one, so that's how it is.
So one might say that you merely saying that Xb one wasn't expected to win is an attempt to make a narrow victory seem far more significant and important than it is. This narrow win isn't really significant for Xb one vs. PS4 because factors other than simple consumer preference are at play.
The sales in 2013 have done nothing to indicate which console will ultimately be the leading console in the USA. But it does strongly suggest it won't be a walkover by either one. And one thing is for certain, it won't be 1.6:1 (which is the 360:Ps3 ratio) in favour of Xb one.

Iwata is a f**king clown. Wii U pulled in 481k in the US, and all the only driving forces behind that was a bundle with a year old game and SM3DW. All the guy had to do was make sure Mario Kart and Donkey Kong were ready for the holiday season and the Wii U most likely would have outsold the PS4 and Xbone. The guy runs a company that has more valuable and great selling properties then any other gaming company on the planet by far, and has found a way to royally screw it up.
That's not "all the guy had to do". Gaming is more then just pressing a button and making a game pop out when you want it to. Mario Kart probably wasn't even done.
That year old game is the sequel to one of the top selling games of the previous generation. SM3DW is the sequel to one of the top seling 3DS games. It's doubtful Mario Kart and Donkey Kong would have made much of a difference, Donkey Kong especially, given that its prequel didn't hold a candle to NSMBWii's sales and NSMBu failed to move Wii U very well at all.
This is about more then software now. It's about the Wii U itself. Whether it's the price, the lack of features, or simply the changes in the marketplace over the last three years, the titles Nintendo provided SHOULD have been more then enough to jumpstart the Wii U's sales. Barring a change in other variables for the better, MK8 and DKRTF won't help much, and rushing them out for a holiday release would have only left 2014 completely barren, which was a major issue in the first half of 2013. Any sales that Nintendo could've made in 2013 with those titles they'll probably make in 2014.
