Well some months will be higher than others. Let's say the base is 1m a month, while other months like February, November and December will be considerably higher due to obvious reasons. So, the average per month should be quite a bit higher than 1m.


for what its worth, demend in Toronto wont be met till march/april.

The PS4 sells a lot, but nobody is talking about its games. Not even Sony fans. There is an Uncharted or The Last of Us out and this forum gets cluttered with threads about how amazing the games are; nothing comparable for the PS4. There is also no mainstream media attention to speak of.

So hardware is bought mostly for the sake of new hardware at this point, because the software to drive the sales we have seen is not there. The PS4 is still widely sold out, so it's impossible to say how much more demand there really is. A 20m+ number for the PS4 also requires Microsoft to sit idle for the entire year and watch the Xbox One getting gored. I don't see that happening.


hate to break it to you, im starving on all 3 consoles.  And with Drive club and Infmous, PS4 is where ill be eatin most.  Did pick up Pikmen today, so cute and fun.

 

today i was in a race to grab a PS4 my bros kid wants it baddddd, saw stock at 930, got to the store 955 with 3 other cars pullin up aggresivly.  After a little sprint we were told all sold out.  PS4s dont even last a few minutes in stores here.  PS4 is months away from meeting demend.  MAjor retailers havent had any in weeks thats how supplu constrained it is.

It wwould be great and it would mean it also sold faster than the Wii, wich was at 19.5 million at the end of it's first full year. PS4 hade the better launch so far but it will need to keep steady sales week on week and a killer holiday season, i'm not sure if PS4 has the software to keep it high the entire year.

20 Million is impossible for manufacturing reasons I think. They currently have capacity to fit ~1M systems a month together, which would not be enough. Also IF they DO sell at 1M a month for the next few months, then they will probably run out of chips to put in the system, and its hard-to-impossible to get more chip fabs to make them in the short term, that's out of Sony's hands, even AMD's.

Remember they expected to sell 5M worldwide by march. That will be met later this month , somehow demand is MUCH greater than Sony predicted. I still believe they should not have launched in any Asia territories till Feb or later, when demand from NA/EU is less than 1M/month. You hear people say they bought an X1 because there were no PS4's available.

I think around 14M by end of 2014 would be more realistic.

Maybe, but I don't expect demand to remain high all year long. The PS4 is not the Wii. Also as others have mentioned, they can't produce that many ps4's,

Nope its not, since its more wanted then the Wii.

I don't agree that its more popular than the Wii. It may be the best selling launch ever, but the Wii had major supply problems.
