I first got interested when I read that Suda was making a Wii game, since I loved Killer 7 so much. So, before it had a title(even it's original title), before it had a publicly known concept, I was onboard.

because it was the only hardcore looking wii game and besides brawl there wan't gonna be much much else to play

I saw the trailer a few years back during G4's E3 coverage ( was it 2006?) and I thought it looked cool, even though I thought it was going to be a fighting game.
