This doesn't mean anything but the fact that he's financing the project.

FROM THE PRODUCERS OF is still effective advertising unfortunately.

It depends on the producer.
However it's usually just more than just "financing the project".
Usually the producer will present the film to film distributers and financial entities, handle the film rights, deal with the director, actors and other staff, change around music and sound, demand new scenes to be filmed or entire scene's/major story pieces be changed completely.

So they don't *always* just handle all the monies, some producers get even more involved, others less so.

True.. but have you ever heard a producer praised for improving a film with his changes?

That line in particular is used to mislead people into thinking it means director.

PRODUCED by Ridley Scott is not DIRECTED by Ridley Scott

Produced only means he's handling the money. Minimal or no creative involvement from producers usually.

Soleron, your'e knowledgable as usual and set things straight.

Yeah, "producer" could mean there's a name stamp only. Sometimes it's just a director's production company involved, but they put the name of a famous director to seem he is part of a movie, but the person is in no way really involved with the project whatsoever. It's just PR.

Anyway, the Halo movie seems to be in development hell sort of, since MS is too anxious to get the project into something real. So I'm wondering, does anybody know how Ubisoft's film projects are moving forward? I member they anounced they would make all of their big game franchises into blockbuster movies, Assassin's Creed, Plinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Far Cry and everything. Is that still an active plan and what kind of strategy do they use? (I think they had their own production company that would be involved somehow).
