Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Last of Us Winning Game of the Year is Disappointing (To Me Atleast)

No LOU was a masterpiece in every sense of the word, no dev does characters, story, with tight gameplay so well and seamless like ND. The industry disagrees.

No offence, but judging by your previous posts, pic, and sig you might be a bit Nintendo-biased...

If you don't like a game, that's cool. But IMO, the greatest strength of TLoU is indeed the immersion factor. The way it places you into it's universe; which you somehow think is a weakness of the game.

GTA5 was great, but expected and familiar. SM3DW was also great, but there really isn't a story there and the gameplay can be found in 3D land on the 3DS (although obviously not as big). Have not placed Link Between Worlds, so I can't really be unbiased with that... But it's a remake of an 80's game that was very popular; so might have some biased fans who are factoring in the nostolgia effect.

Just my opinion, but TLoU is not only the best of 2013 (although not easily), but one of the best games of all time. It made me cry. I've never cried before playing a game. That's crazy.

Nah dude it's cool I am biased. Nintendo is my favorite game company currently XD

I didn't play A Link to the Past till a few months before ALBW, so I didn't like it for pure nostalgia, there we're tons of things I enjoyed about it that could warrant their own thread.

The Last of Us also made me cry, quite a few times actually, but even though the story is amazing, I'm more of a gameplay guy, and I just found it to be lacking in that aspect.

I've heard this with reference to Uncharted vs Tomb Raider (reboot). Since Tomb Raider TRIES to make you go on an emotional journey, it is therefore more interesting than Uncharted where you basically know what you'll get. But Uncharted was executed perfectly, Tomb Raider wasn't

In this case, the Last of Us tells a story that has been told before, but it does it so much better than anything else. The way the characters are so perfectly realised just draws you in and you really care about them throughout the story. Added to that, the gameplay feels different from any other third person shooter and on the higher difficulties the survival elements really add a lot

Yes the clickers were a bit cheap, but you need to feel scared and out of control, especially at the start. By the end, I basically felt like a death machine, which was very very appropriate. Uncharted has often been accused of having a massive disconnect between the gameplay and the story, whereas the Last of Us very cleverly draws the 2 together to massively improve the experience

But the most important thing for me was the nearly perfect ending. I haven't picked up the game since and don't think I played any other games for a few weeks after because it really effected me.

I can say the same thing about 3D world, not much I haven't seen before. It's good, but it also feels very familiar. I haven't played GTA5 yet, or link between worlds, kinda bored with those IPs after their last outings.
I played through the last of us twice, haven't finished 3D world yet, that says enough.

Ni No Kuni should have won imo, that's where the real wonder was for me last year.
The last of us wins on immersion.

Winning GOTY where? Certainly didn't win here, didn't even with the PS3 GOTY. It's won on some game sites, but plenty of other games have won GOTY's. I wouldn't even say it's dominated GOTY. Seems that GTAV, LBTW and SM3DW are getting plenty of love here.

So what you are saying is that TLOU winning even one GOTY is disappointing?

And TLOU isn't a shooter. You can make it through entire levels doing only stealth or melee take downs (with the occasional bomb or molotov thrown in for good measure), or sneak past all the enemy without having to kill one. Shooting is an element of TLOU but stealth is far more important. The harder the difficulty setting the more you need to stealth, because ammo is very hard to come by on high difficulty. So to say just "another shooter" suggests you don't really know the game at all.

The gameplay can be summed up as "ladder, plank, raft."

Not really.

Also, The Last of Us was a game that really immersed me in the overall experience unlike any other game ever has, which is why it deserves its Game of the Year awards. I played Super Mario 3D World and it was enjoyable, but there literally was no story of any significance and therefore I could not get immersed in the game. It's all about personal preference, however, I fully understand why TLOU is winning over any other game this year.

?? TLOU dominated GOTY awards everywhere.............................it deserves it too.

Saying TLOU is just another shooter shows OP never touched tlou, its the furthest thing froma shooter.

Saying gameplay is "Ladder, plank, raft is simply pure ignorance.

clearly goty by a mile, nothing came close.
im sure ninty fans would say other wise no matter what.
nothing more disspointing then delusions based of corporate loyalties.

Your summation of the gameplay is terrible. It's much deeper than that, and really makes the game fun in moments when you're running low on supplies and ammo due to the way you choose to approach the enemies.

The Last of Us has completely dominated Game of the Year overall. It has won over 200 GOTY awards from sites around the world as highlighted in this thread. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=175911&page=1# That is well over what any other game this year has won.
