Forums - Sales Discussion - Can 3DS outsell PSP (lifetime)?

Which handheld will end up with more sales (lifetime)?

PSP 69 10.27%

3DS 522 77.68%

About even 81 12.05%

Total:672

Probably. I think it's gonna be close, PSP is still selling, 2013 was just a bit less than Vita and Wii U lol

LOL people voting for 3DS.
The handheld peaked already, its going downhil from here. Its not gonna be as long as the DS on the market.

Why it won't last as long as ds?

PSP sale went down when 3rs party abondon it that's why i think 3ds will outsell psp.

3DS peaked. Its 1/2 sales of the PSP. It will struggle to sell another 40 million.

It's 1/2 sales of psp in only 2 year and when psp still had a good support,in 2007 and 2008 thirs party support shrink and affect psp sales.
I give 3ds 3 other years to outsell psp.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

3DS released early 2011 (basically counted as its first full year) It's had 3 years on the market not 2.

It'll probably pass the Wii too, it all depends on wether or not Nintendo cuts it's life short.

3DS has sold roughly 80% what the original DS did in the same period of time (3 years).

So if NDS has sold 155M total, then that puts 3DS near 125M. That's where I'd imagine it'll end up, especially with some huge software titles coming up this year.

So obviously 3DS beats PSP.

why every Nintendo device has to be outsold by a Sony device? Some comments here are interesting....

PS2>DS
PS1>Wii
PSP>3DS
PSV>WiiU
PS3>N64, Gamecube, etc.

It's just the circle of life

it would be a nicer list if you include revenue as well besides why are you comparing them to the consoles that suit you rather than the actual comparison in the order they came out?

If Nintendo can pump out must have titles then it shouldn't be a problem

No offense but that's some really rough analysis on your part.

In 13 Q's on the market 3DS will have shipped 43 - 44m, DS shipped 65m. At this point forwards DS started doing 30m a year, 3DS is struggling to achieve 50% of that, let alone 80%.

You mean 3 year, 3DS is out since early 2011.

3DS wont have the longevity of the DS. Nintendo consoles dont have legs save for the DS which is an anomaly for nintendo. It will go down fast. Another 2 good years max, with total of 25 million sales. And 1 or 2 year more on the market, barely selling another 5-10 million. Its gonna be close to PSP at its best.

PSP hasn't stopped selling. It could end up with 83-85m or so.

Let's see:

2014 - 13m
2015 - 11m
2016 - 7.5m
2017 - 4m
2018 - 1.5m
2019 - 0.5m

That's only 37.5m more. The drops to Nintendo hardware are rarely minor, after their peaks. See Wii and DS.

I was comparing the 3DS to the PSP's sales as of now. In no way did I predict what the PSP would do in the coming years.

Why are you staging such a large drop from 2016 to 2017? That seems almost too dramatic.

The way it's going now, it looks like PSP will win this, but nothing is out of the question.
