Each time a console fails, it's probably the same pattern that happens again. But in the end, what really matters is, if Wii U is in trouble, will Nintendo be able to boost it up like they did with 3DS? Remember that 3DS really was a hated console, called dead at birth, lacking quality games. Then it became one of the most valued console, and the champion of sales for the last 2 years.
The real thing we want to see is Nintendo not dropping the ball. We just want them to stay confident about their product and still pump up games like 3D World, Pikmin or Wind Waker. We do worry about those situations, because we saw Sega quit the home console market and change over the years. Sony players don't wanna see their beloved company drop the Vita support because they want it to be healthy and be the home of dozens of excellent games. Much of the hate headed toward Wii U is also fear in disguise, because we hate seeing it struggle like it does. We want it to succeed because it deserves so, because the system really is great, user-friendly, and the games are over-the-top. We want Nintendo to keep working that way and encounter success.
Also, most of Wii U haters never actually tried it, or never really got much into it to see how cool it is.
In the meantime, let's remember that forever and after, these are gaming consoles. What matters the most about them is how they could become the shelf of some of the most genre-defining gaming experiences.
