OR keeps getting praise in the media but i just can't see it being successful. it will probably be neat to try someday but can you really see the mass market actually buying one? ...i can't.

Why can't you?

TOo expensive
TOo big

I bet TOo heavy

And won't get enough support unless both Sony and Micro go for something like this in the future

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

well, this reaction video sure managed to get me hyped a bit

I think I might go for it once they have a 4k or atleast a 2560x1440 display in there, as with 1080p the pixel density isn't high enough to get rid of the "looking through a screen door" effect.

If there's one thing that would get me into PC gaming as my primary mode of gaming it would be Oculus Rift.

It's real gaming innovation in that it can actually improve the immersion and experience unlike Move and Kinect, which, well..you know...didn't really particularly so with the Kinect. Anyways, I'm not trying to troll Kinect, just that Oculus is extremely promising unlike anything heretofore for a loooong time.

I like how they added a Kinect/PSMovie/Wiimote quality to it with those little LEDs and a camera.

It all depends on support and how consumers like it. I'm curious, but will also depend on price.

I thin it will at least be another gen for them before they go 4K (like several more years.)

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

I want one so badly. How much will the retail version be and when is an official version gonna be available in general market retail?

I think $400 would be reasonable but I personally might be able to go a couple of hundred above that if it's good quality and there's widespread support from PC games.

initialy they wanted to make the retail version ~$300, but they stated that recent additions added a bit to the price, so I'd expect the device itself to cost $300-450

but keep in mind that you need a pretty good pc to deliever the minimum of 60 fps you need for an unimpared VR experience, especially if you plan to play more demanding games

They quoted somewhere between 200 to 400 dollars. The low rez Dev kit costs $300 at the moment.

I've been following the product for about a year now and it seems very impressive. They have added new features with each new version they demo and seem to really listen to feedback from the Devs. For me this shows a lot of promise. Not just in tech but in attitude and networking skills. They are also working closely with the guys at Unreal and are integrating support for it in the Unreal 4 engine.
I imagine having john Carmack on board as the CTO opened a lot of doors for them as it's not just about what you know, it's about who you know and how to deal with the Games industry.

As a PC gamer I plan to buy it the day it's released.

Yeah, that might become a problem to all people who play on outdated PCs or a laptop, but I personally think I will be fine since I soon plan to purchase a mighty PC system with the AMD FX-8350 and Radeon R9 290. Together with the Rift it's gonna be so sweet.

What's your plan?

Oculus Rift/VR helmets are easily going to bring the biggest technological impact in several years, almost as much as 3D printing.
When it comes to video games, I'd even say it will be the biggest technological impact within the last two decades or so.

Absolutely everyone I've heard of who tried the previous prototype was absolutely blown away, even though they all pointed out that it still has its issues. And every report I have so far read about the new prototype points out that they almost cannot believe just how much further they improved the new prototype, and that pretty much all issues the old prototype had are completely gone.

What's a shame is that the brand new consoles might be a little too underpowered for the technology, especially Xbox One with its graphics resolution issues. So it will probably have the biggest impact on PC gaming.

The gpu upgrade that most people need will indeed add to the cost. I'm going to wait for the consumer version before upgrading and get the best upgrade at that time, since screen tearing or sub 60fps 1080p 3D is not going to cut it.
Plus what else do you all need? They've added a camera now for positional tracking. A controller is pretty much essential. It would be great if it works with the ps4 controller with the touchpad. Plus a move / kinect like controller seems like a natural fit as well.
