Although Nintendo hasn’t released an official statement, an inside source at the company said that Wii U sales skyrocketed in December 2013. Total worldwide Wii U sales are approaching 10 million units, according to the source.
This tidbit has rocked a gaming world that thought the PS4 and Xbox One had already revolutionized next-gen gaming through record-breaking launch sales.
“Boy, was I wrong,” said Medulla Oblongata, a previously unsatisfied Wii U owner. “I also own a PS4, and for weeks I was thinking, ‘Man, PS4 sales are going to overtake the Wii U soon.’ I used to hate the Wii U for that. But now that I know the Wii U is almost at 10 mil, I’ve been enjoying my Wii U so much more. The games just look and play better on it now.”
While walking down the steps from the front door of his apartment, Xbox One owner Marcus Kunty read the news about the new Wii U sales figure and tripped, rolling down at least seven steps and snapping his wrist in half.
“It really hurt me reading the news, both emotionally and physically,” Kunty said. “But when my wrist starts feeling better, I’m going to buy a Wii U and be part of the real next-gen revolution.”
A handful of anonymous key figures within major game publications have reported gnashing of the teeth from unnamed editors and writers. These journalists truly believed the Wii U was not an eighth-generation system, despite the fact that the system chronologically followed the seventh-generation systems.
“This rumored number, 10 million units, is really opening a lot of eyes now about the potential of gaming itself,” said one anonymous key figure within a major game publication. “And some of those eyes are very irritated and bloodshot from drinking.”
Michael Pachter, a video game analyst who has been critical of the Wii U, is reportedly preparing a written apology to Nintendo and its fans, but he can’t forecast when it will be completed.
This can't be true...Wii U is doomed confirmed by me and I'm the predicting god around these parts. Maybe Nintendo is counting the Wii U units that were unshipped in europe as two sales making sales appear twice as high ;)
