Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Retro Studios Is Hiring, Something Brewing Up at Nintendo?

Those are steps in the right direction. We won't see the results of all those hirings this generation, but it's good preparation for the next one.

How do you honestly expect that to be true, unless you're implying that the Wii U's "generation" will be over by 2015? It won't be.

Retro already hired a bunch of new folks in 2012, and some more in 2013. It's not surprising at all, they are builing up their staff to be able to make multiple games at once. In fact, I've had a hunch for some time that they've already BEEN working on more than one game at a time, DK being only one of them. A lot of this new staff are probably working on that not yet announced other title, and considering they're increasing staff in general, I would fully expect whatever their next game is to be out by at least late 2015. I honestly think the only reason they delayed DK was to give Mario more limelight, or somesuch.

Best be Metroid Prime 4. Someone has to revive that franchise after the godawful Other M.

They just got some really nice experience doing 2D gameplay.

I want a new 2D console Metroid game. This is where the series belongs.

I totally agree with you. However, me personally, what I want to see, is a FULLY 2D Metroid. Not merely a "2.5D" sidescroller that has graphics ala DKCR. I would much rather see gorgeous hand drawn sprites, in full HD, ala Super Metroid/Zero Mission. And in all honesty, I'd rahter see Nintendo themselves doing that, just as much as I'd rather see Nintendo themselves do other Wii U titles like Star Fox, Wave Race, etc. In my mind, they've more or less done the best entries in their own franchises (Super Metroid, F-Zero X, Star Fox 64, etc.), and even Miyamoto made a comment last year about wanting to see Nintendo handle more franchises themselves again.

Not against Retro doing another Metroid. In fact, even if they do announced a Prime 4, even though I would be somewhat disappointed, because I think it's fine leaving Prime as a self-contained trilogy, I'd still likely wind up being excited for it. But what I'd really love, the best of both worlds for me, would be for Nintendo themselves to do a new fully 2D Metroid game, and to have Retro FINALLY do their own original IP. I love their games, but I've been waiting seemingly forever to see what they could come up with on their own.

Cranky Kong's fur being improved (obviously).

Metroid 4 released 12 years ago :P

Sorry, I was going by RockStar's School of Counting lolll

Sorry, but unlike San Andreas and Vice City, Metroid Fusion really IS numbered, just like Super Metroid was officially referred as Metroid 3. ^_-

Well shit, they should have put it in the box art then lolll, point taken

I hope Other M is not Metroid 5, because if  it is, then I am going to freak out like Samus when she saw Ridley in that game.

Other M is NOT "Metroid 5". There has been no Metroid 5, and at this point there might never be. I hope I'm wrong, I hope we GET A fully 2D, sprite based, honest to goodness Metroid 5. But till it happens, don't hold your breath.

I love Metroid and I don't care if it is a Prime 4 or a new series or so. I just want a Metroid and I am still thinking about the VGX with the 8bit Samus. But I think it is more interesting that Retro said at E3 they aren't working on another project and at the VGX they said that they can't talk about it. Ohhh yeah I love Metroid...

I don't hate Microsoft, I don't hate PC,
I don't prefer Sony, I don't prefer Nintendo.
...Ok, I love Nintendo but this is something about tolerance, ok?

I'm a gamer with one of the greatest hobbies and I want to share this greatness with everyone.

I have a feeling that X has been quietly cancelled. There has been literally 0 information on the game in over 6 months. When that happens to a game, it is a fairly cergtain sign it has been cancelled.

It really sucks too, because this was my most anticipated game of the whole generation.

Please, what we saw showed they were much too far into production to afford to pull the plug.

Nintendo tend not to show much of games more than six months away, its just how they operate.

There's no evidence whatsoever that it's been canned.

Errr... No. Monolith is just making a very ambitious game. Not every dev is like Sakurai and give a few screenshots of their progress every 2 weeks. ¬_¬

When the game is closer to completion, you'll start hearing more about it. They probably  announced it early just to hook and hype gamers and entice them into getting a Wii U.

Yup. Just like Xenoblade got "quietly cancelled" because Nintendo briefly showed off Monado years ago, and then we didn't hear anything about the game for some time. Obviously, if a game devleoper is keeping tight-lipped about any new info on their game, it MUST'VE been shelved, right? Simple logic.
