Given your apparent conspiracy theory towards shhipping vs sold numbers, I find it highly doubtful that you'd be viewing the site at that time while resisting your urge to sign up and spew the bile. Your attempted alibi doesn't make an ounce of sense, given your already displayed attitude towards it.

As for the sales themselves, you'll find that VGC's numbers were a lot closer to NPD's figures than the ones that Sony posted in their financial reviews (you know, the ones that people would cite here as the reason why VGC's numbers were wrong?)

Nice try, though....

You are the one who originally brought shipped/sold conspiracies into this thread.  Also seems weird to say it was a source of confusion for others back in 2007 when it seems to be a source of confusion for yourself today.

Sony hasn't broken down their shipments by region since the PS3 was released, so I'm not sure how you could quantify VGC being closer to shipments than NPD in the US

Except NPD is retail data (ie. ACTUAL sold consoles), VGChartz is an estimate of retail data, and Sony's original figures were shipped.

VGC was never about the shipped figures. It was about the retail sales figures. That's the point...

NPD and VGC are the same, but the NPD has better sources to extrapolate from. The only real 100% accurate data is Sony's (and the others) shipped figures.

Anyway, 0.1m out is within the desired error. It's fine

I'm actually impressed that VGChartz estimate is only 100k "off". That's extremely good.

The original Vgchartz "estimate" was 3.9 million. The 4.1 million we see now was a readjustment of the numbers following Sony's announcement of the updated sell-through figures.

Ah, thanks for the info. Still, 300k off the real number (or about 7%) still isn't too shabby.

Vgchartz has around a 10% margin of error, so to me being 100,000 off is acceptable.
Anything more then 10% time to burn site down with fire and oil.

You're right. NPD and VGC strive for the same goal....so why introduce a totally irrelevant figure into the mix?

The only thing that the shipped figure does is tell you your hard ceiling figure. It has some small relevance to retail sales, but there is potential for a massive buffer between the two...

3 days of the year missing.

Find it funny though, MS meant shipped to some when they said 3 mil. It's 100% sold through though when it comes to Sony. LOL!

Sony is pretty much sold out, Ms is not.....pretty easy to understand. Either way makes no diff, easy to see what is selling btter.

Seriously, anybody who takes offense to 100k difference belongs with these miscreants:

VGChartz values are from the 28th. Sony's are from the 31st.

Try to notice the details next time.

lol quality post

I confused with Microsoft it seems. My apologies existenz2. Not to Joe the bro who thinks the internet has winners. You were late. The poster above beat you to it.

Still, i dont know how VGC does the corrections. The site hasnt been updated since the values were published, wich was before the Sony announcement.

What? I made a bet with bananaking. Yes the internet has winners.

Do you still believe the Xbox One will sell less than 200k worldwide January?

I'm thinking it's going to be close, but yeah I'm still confident in my prediction. I just got back from my local best buy. They had 0 PS4s, 6 Wii Us, and 10 XBONEs out in the game area. Anectdotal I know, but still it supports that sales will drop this month by a lot.

Title says it all.

Why is there 100,000 difference ?

Correction needed please!

I couldn't understand it myself. Sony announce 4.2 and VGchartz then adjusts there numbers to 4.1 million. Why?

The PS5 Exists.

They were 300,000 off but adjusted the number after Sony announced the official 'sell through' numbers. That's why it's odd.
